Subject: Dear Georgianna

What a loss for all of us. Georgianna was such a wonderful influence in my life, especially, my days with Delta. She was truly one of kind, and I will miss knowing she was only a flight away. Love to all, Cissy Whitt Dotzler

Subject: Georgianna Schenck Ralston: a memory shared of a good friend

Georgianna Schenck Ralston, or “Butch”, as her dad nicknamed her and we all called her in Plainfield , was a good friend and classmate of mine. I liked her so much for her kind ways and quick sense of humor. We were always hatching some scheme or another, it seemed. During our senior year I had a houseguest visiting me and my family who was supposed to leave after Christmas. When he decided to stay for New Year’s Eve, however, I had a problem which Georgianna helped me solve. My late husband David had asked me out for New Year’s Eve, but when our houseguest extended his stay, I told David I would find a date for him with someone else. That someone else was Georgianna, who was a good sport about it all. That night David taught her about stalagmites and stalactites such as one might find inside a cave in southern Indiana , which he knew all about from his scouting expeditions. And I entertained the young man who was our houseguest, a guy I’d met on a summer family vacation in Miami the year before.

I’m sure we played some games and ate snacks, but the short of this story is that at midnight the individual couples kissed to welcome in the New Year of 1961. Then the couples decided to exchange partners to doubly welcome in the New Year! Well, that experience didn’t affect Georgianna and my houseguest as much as it did my and David’s future, but she was there the night my life changed in a new direction. Had she not been sweet enough to be David’s date that night, I might have never discovered what Cher sings about in her song, “It’s in his kiss”!! Who knew? And ironically, now she and David, the two most recent classmates from our high school class to pass away within 3 months of each other, may meet up again when the welcoming party comes out to greet her as she enters into Heaven! David and I often talked about that night over the years, and of course, always enjoyed the outcome. Georgianna played a significant role in launching his and my 45-year marriage, which like Georgiana’s and Jack’s, ended all too soon. But it’s not the end of the story for either couple---to be continued, God willing, in our Eternal Lives beyond this Earthly life.

Jack, I’m truly sorry for your loss of a wonderful woman. You (and Maggie Mae) have my heartfelt sympathy and prayers.

Love in Christ,

Pam Davis
