Mattie Nell Robbins Elliott

Franklin - Mattie Nell Robbins Elliott, age 83, of Charles Nolen Rd., Franklin, NC passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 in an Asheville hospital. Born in Swain County she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Hattie Grant Robbins. She was married to the late Jim Elliott who died in 2005. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to sew.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosa Young and husband Mark; Imojean Elliott and Jo Webb and husband Johnny; two sons, Denver Elliott and wife Vicki and D. L. Elliott and wife Mary all of Franklin, NC; two brothers, Vance Robbins of Franklin, NC and Lawrence Robbins of Bryson City, NC. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Webb and one son, David Elliott.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Davis Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bud Elliott, Steve Elliott, Deny Elliott, Scotty Elliott, Gary Webb, D. J. Elliott, Glenny Bumgarner, Robbie Young and Brandon Elliott. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Phyllis (Grammy Phyl) Elliott

Highlands, NC- Phyllis (Grammy Phyl) Elliott , 82 of Highlands,NC formerly of Delray Beach, Florida passed into the hands of her Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, November 6th at home.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald H. Elliott, her children, Larry E. Elliott and wife Karen of Delray Beach, FL, Donald E. Elliott and wife Lisaa of Cullowhee, NC, Philip N. Elliott of Cullowhee, NC. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Elliott in 1985. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Many, many friends also survive.

Contributions may be made to the Christ Church of the Valley, 118 Hwy 64 E. Cashiers, NC 28741 or to the Charity of one’s choice.

The family will hold a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00PM at the Christ Church of the Valley in Cashiers, NC.

Deeda Mashburn Elmore

Franklin, NC- Deeda Mashburn Elmore, age 99, of Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at a local nursing home. A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Jennie Angel Mashburn. She was married to Clint Elmore who passed away in 1969. Deeda was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and needlepoint.

She is survived by one daughter Katrina Elmore Davis and husband, Fred of Wendell, NC; one sister, Lola Ferraro of Franklin, NC; one grandchild, Jennifer Hamilton and her husband, David and one great grandchild, Connor Hamilton.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:00PM at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel United Methodist church cemetery. The family will recieve friends Monday August 22, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home shere the body will remain until placed in the Church thirty minutes prior to service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 81 Bethel Church Rd. Franklin, NC 28734.

John William Ervin

Franklin, NC - John William Ervin, age 85, of Shadow Lane, Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Anderson County, SC the son of William and Martha Mashburn Ervin. He was a US Army WWII Veteran. He was a superintendent for a rope mill and worked for Winn Dixie for several years. He was a volunteer fireman for thirty years. He was a member of Sugarfork Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Velma Crisp Ervin; three daughters, Renee Ervin Bell and Leann Menteer both of Franklin, NC and Judy Ervin of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren, LaShonda Kilby of Lafayette, GA and Megan Schick and Brian of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Lakota Bell, Brett Bell and Erik Schick.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 2:00Pm at Sugarfork Baptist Church with Rev. Vic Greene, Rev. Daniel Tranthum and Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. Burial will be held in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Eddie Fox, Gary Taylor, Michael Wiggins, Harold Crisp, Jimmy Teem, and Danny Hall will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 17 from 6:00-8:00PM at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Helen Gertrude Estell

Franklin, NC - Helen Gertrude Estell, age 94, of Riverbend Road, Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 at a local hospital. She was born in Crawford Co., PA the daughter of the late Lyle and Clara Whippo Field. She was married to the late George Estell. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Howard and her husband, Charles of Ellis Grove, IL; her sons, Robert George Estell of Franklin, NC and Daniel Lyle Estell and his wife, Judi of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and William Estell .

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, December 24 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Burial will be held at Palms Woodlawn in Noranja, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Connie Mae Evans

Franklin, NC - Connie Mae Evans, born December 30, 1949, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. She died at Angel Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late George W. Evans and Lucy Campbell Evans. She is survived by her mother and one sister Emma Lovett and husband Walt, and one brother Eddie Evans and wife Teri. Nieces are Kim Hedden and husband Barry, Valerie Norton and husband Steve, Christy Barnett and husband Jimmy, and is also survived by one nephew, Dustin Evans. Three great-nieces, Olivia Hedden, Lauren Norton, and Callie Barnett. One great-nephew, Blake Hedden also survives. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Duel Carpenter, and a niece, Morgan Hedden.

When Connie was school age, she attended a special class in Franklin taught by Mrs. Evelyn Pangle and other teachers. Connie attended Murdock School in Butner, NC for four years. While at Murdock she was taught and trained in everyday life skills. It was a long way to Butner back then and a great sacrifice for her mom and dad to leave her in the care of strangers but they trusted the Lord to take care of her.

From 1960 to 1969 she attended Western Carolina Center in Morganton, NC., where they continued to give her love, training and special care. Macon Citizens for the Handicapped was a great part of her life for many years. She enjoyed all the activities there as she made bells and rabbit foot key chains. While attending MCH, Connie enjoyed bowling and brought home many trophies.

Connie was a member of Iotla Baptist Church and was in the Dorcas Sunday School Class and attended the J.O.Y. Club. Connie loved Pickin on The Square and gospel music.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19th at 2:00pm at Iotla Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Reeves, Rev. Stacy Woods, Rev. Vic Greene and Rev. Brandon Breedlove officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm, Friday at the Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walt Lovett, Dusty Evans, Jimmy Barnett, Steve Norton, Barry Hedden, and Ronnie Campbell, Blake Hedden as an honorary pallbearer, and her caregivers with PDQ Nursing, Tonja Harden, Lisa Buchanan, andTammy Charles,and Heaven Scent and Pam Raby with Hospice.

Jerry D. Evans

Franklin, NC - Jerry D. Evans, age 55, passed away February 17, 2011 in Angel Medical Center. A lifelong resident, he grew up in the Olive Hill section of Macon County. After marrying the mother of his daughter, Janice Tatum Evans Mason, he made a home in Patton Community before moving into town in 1977. He was the son of Greta Juanita Evans Bradley of Franklin. He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Glenda Ledford Evans of the home; a daughter, Christy Maria Evans of Franklin and three sons, Todd Stirling Ledford, Jeremy Douglas Evans and wife Melissa of Jackson County, Christopher Malcolm Evans of the home; three grandchildren, Michael Tyler Evans, Andrew Douglas Evans, Rachel Nichole Evans; two nephews, Kevin Swafford and David Green and one sister, Ronda Dills.

He was employed by Terminix Service for thirty four years. He was an avid Tarheel fan; past Democrat Chairman of South Franklin Precinct; coached community league basketball, served on Franklin Town Board of Aldermen for thirteen years and two years as vice mayor.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Troy Woodard and Rev. Johnny Raby officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Evans, Butch Brendle, Troy Woodard, Ed Henson, Billy Mashburn and Gerald Roper. Honorary pallbearers will be Terminix Employees, Franklin Police Department, Franklin Fire Department, Mayor Joe Collins, Franklin Board of Aldermen and Town of Franklin Employees. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Hugh Kenneth Everett

Franklin, NC - Hugh Kenneth Everett, age 83, of the Oak Grove Community, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Ocala, FL the son of the late Joseph Everett. He was a retired life guard for the city of Miami, FL. He was an avid golfer and was a five time champion of the Franklin and Holly Springs Golf Courses.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Logan Dempsey Everett; one daughter, Jacqueline Andrea Bridges of Punta Gorde, FL; two sons, Andrew Jacques Mallory of Franklin, NC and Duane Mallory of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter-in-law, Ginger Mallory of Otto, NC; two brothers, Marvin Everett of Atlanta, GA and Joseph Everett of Clearwater, FL. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Mallory and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be Wed. October 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM, in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Judson Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Jacqueline Logan Everett

Franklin, NC - Jacqueline Logan Everett, age 87, of Queen Branch Road, Franklin, NC, passed away March 26, 2010., in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was a native of Palm Beach County, Florida, the daughter of the late William A. and Ella Dempsey. She was married to the late Hugh K. Everett, who passed away in 2008. She was a homemaker and a Real Estate Agent. She had lived for the last eighteen months in Florida with her grandchildren, Barry, Terri and Cory. She loved playing the guitar, banjo and dancing. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Andrea Bridges of Punta Gorda, FL; a son, Duane L. Mallory of Hagler Beach, FL; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. She was preceded in death by two sons, A. J. Mallory and Barry Mallory.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 2:00pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Judson Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service at the Church.
