David Bryan Farmer

Franklin, NC - David Bryan Farmer, 45, of Jim Mann Rd., Franklin, NC died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at his residence. A native of Macon County, he was the son of Virginia (Jean) Guffie Farmer and the late Glenn Farmer of Franklin, NC. He was employed by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office as a Detective on the Drug Task Force and for the past several years by the Franklin Seed Store. He was a member of Longview Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother he is survived by one daughter Megan Farmer Thomas and one son Justin Farmer both of Franklin, NC; one sister Shannon Leigh Babin and Kevin of Franklin, NC and two brothers Glenn Richard Farmer and Beth of Asheville, NC and Joel Wayne Farmer and Vanessa of Franklin, NC. Two grandchildren, Makenzie Thomas and Taylor Thomas, also survive along with several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. David Powell, Rev. Nick Smith and Rev. Lloyd Fish officiating. Pallbearers will be Justin Farmer, Joe Farmer, Kevin Babin, Ricky Farmer, Ronnie McGuire, Tim Fish and Gene Donaldson. The family will receive friends Friday, July 30, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and the American Legion Post #108 will conduct military graveside rites.

Travis Anthony Farmer

Franklin - Travis Anthony Farmer, age 22, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Jackson County, NC, the son of Joel B. Farmer and Carole Lenor Farmer of Franklin, NC. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents Anthony and Marjorie Lenor of Pittsburg, PA. He worked for Webster Enterprises and attended Life Church in Franklin.

Travis was a 2007 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a talented artist. Travis was a quiet young man who always had a kind word and smile for everyone. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 12 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Moore officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00-2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. A celebration of his life will be held following the service at 4848 Burningtown Road, Franklin, NC 28734.

Laverne Eleanor Fedors

Dateline: Franklin, NC - Laverne Eleanor Fedors, age 84, of John Teague Road, Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, February 4, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a native of Cook County, IL, the daughter of the late George Heidenreich and Eleanor Chvatal Heidenreich. She was married to the late William Fedors. She was a LPN, and a Beautician. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and was Leader of the Prayer Group.

She is survived by three daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Carmin of Franklin, NC, Barbara Krueger and her husband Gary of Delavan, WI and Janet Welch and her husband Ron of Danbury, NE; one son, John Schneider and his wife Irene of Hamilton, Ontario Canada; two sisters, Georgia Stewban of Bollingbrooke, IL and Lily Rogan of Indiana; one brother, Jim Heiden of Eugene, Oregon; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8th at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Duane Maracle officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm, one hour prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

LaVern "Vern" Richard Feeney

Franklin, NC - LaVern "Vern" Richard Feeney, age 78, of Claude Sanders Road, Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at John F. Keever Solace Center He was a native of Ashland County, Wisconsin, the son of the late Francis James Feeney and Awanda Margaret Fonger Feeney. He was a retired mill run worker for General Motors. He served in the US Marine Corp for eight years, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a Boy Scout Leader for three years.

He is survived by his wife of ten years, Lois Dallie Herron Feeney; two sons, Greg Feeney of Granite City, Illinois and Keith Feeney of Vassar, Michigan; three step-sons, Charles E. Sanders and Kelly C. Sanders both of Franklin, NC and David E. Sanders of Sylva, NC; one brother, Ralph Feeney of Waterford, Michigan; six-step-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16th at 11:00am in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Albert Herron and Rev. Robert Dryman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct complete military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Charles E. Sanders, David Sanders, Kelly Sanders, Bert Herron, Billy Herron, and Hunter Sanders.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Hayden Thomas Ferguson, Jr

Brevard, NC & Franklin, NC - Hayden Thomas Ferguson, Jr., age 83, of Brevard, NC went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2010. He was born June 5, 1927. A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Hayden T. Ferguson, Sr., and Claudia Sudderth Ferguson. He was preceded in death by wives Helen Sumner Ferguson and Tina Duncan Ferguson.

Surviving are his wife, Jimmie Peterson Ferguson of Brevard, a daughter Gina Steinbicker and husband, David of Sylva; a brother, James W. Ferguson of Dallas, GA and a sister, Frances Sue Ferguson Bridges of Middleburg, PA. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Natalie Steinbicker, and a grandson Seth Steinbicker; two step sons, Charles R. Loftis, Jr and wife Suzie of Brevard and James M. Loftis, Sr. and wife Rosie of Mt. Pleasant, SC; step granddaughters, Brandy Moore and husband Rodney of Lake Stevens, WA, and Ava Loftis; step grandson, Michael Loftis and two step great granddaughters, Brianna and Addison Moore. He was blessed to have many nieces and nephews as well.

Mr. Ferguson was retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol as a Line Sergeant and he was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Navy with the Seabees.

Hayden, also affectionately called H.T. or "Ferg" was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to grow a garden. He enjoyed going on hunting trips with his loyal friends and fellow sportsmen. He was a hard worker and was fiercely loyal to his profession as a Line Sergeant with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He was known all over Western North Carolina for being " A Legend" while serving with the Patrol. He was highly respected by his fellow Patrol co workers as well as the citizens of the many counties he patrolled during his career. He was fair and diligent and always caught the "bad" guys and protected the good citizens of North Carolina. He has been a great inspiration to all the officers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol who risk their lives each day to serve and protect the citizens of North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 3:00PM at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church in Murphy, NC and will be conducted by Dr. Chester Jones, Rev. Mike Jordan, Rev. Larry Madden and Rev. David Reeves. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at the Peachtree Baptist Church Cemetery with burial rites by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 325 N. Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712, for improvement of the sound system.

George Harold Fleming

Highlands, NC - George Harold Fleming, age 89, of Shortoff Rd., Highlands, NC passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Fidelia Eckerd Living Center. Born in Washington Co., NY, the son of the late Harold David and Dazie Mae Rowell Fleming, he was the retired founder of Better Business Forms, Inc.; an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, golfer and bon vivant. George was one of the founders of International Business Forms Industries, a member of Kiwanis Club, a Mason, and a member of Lakewood Country Club, St. Petersburg, FL where he was club president in 1976. He was married to Mary Elaine Kelley Fleming for sixty-eight years on January 9, 2011.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann Emmert and husband Ty of St. Louis, MO, Gail Fleming and Sandy Fleming both of Highlands, NC; two grandchildren, Kathy Terrio and Sharon Smith and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Smith and Benjamin Smith.

Michael Benjamin Ford

Franklin, NC - Michael Benjamin Ford, age 63, of Smokerise Road, Franklin, NC passed away May 5, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born in Hawthorn, Nevada, the son of the late Robert Lee Ford and Bobbie Thrasher Ford Smith. He was married to Patricia Ann Ford who passed away December 4, 2007. He was an installer repairman for Bell South Telephone Company. He was a member of the Macon County Bee Keepers.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie Walker-Wright of Camp Hill, PA and Kimberlee Ann Ford of Asheville, NC; three sons, Brian Emery Walker and his wife, Donna of Franklin, NC, Michael Andrew Ford and his wife, Barbara of Goose Creek, SC and Keith Stuart Walker and his wife, Regina of Summerville, SC; one brother, Richard Lee Ford of Charleston, SC. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 8 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Vic Greene officiating.

Charles "Greg" Foster

Hughesville MD - Charles "Greg" Foster, 51, died March 22, 2010 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC. A resident of Hughesville, MD, Greg was a conveyor supervisor with Elevator Control Services for 26 years. He played softball in many southern Maryland softball leagues and was a former manager of Little League. He enjoyed playing golf and was very active in sports. He was known as a very kind and giving person (would give the shirt off his back), wonderful father and grandfather.

He was the son of Maurice Eugene Foster and living Willa Mae Raby Foster of Franklin, NC. Surviving on addition to his parents is his wife of 14 years, Susan Ann Bowles Foster; one son, David M. (Caitlin) Oxenham of Waldorf, MD; two daughters, Amber Dawn (Troy) Parlett of King George, VA, and Kimberly Ann (Pete) James of Tulsa, OK; three brothers, Gene (Julia) Foster, II of St. Leonard, MD, Michael (Sharon) Foster of Edgewater, MD, and Glenn (Bobbie) Foster of Marbury, MD; two sisters, Kitty Pat (Leo) Cummins of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gwen (Michael) Fitzgerald of Amherst, VA. Also survived by four grandchildren, Jonathan, Brandon, Angela, and Alyssa.

Visitation was held Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 5-8 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service: Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11 AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating.

Interment was at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers: Gene Foster, II, Gene Foster, III, David Oxenham, Mike Foster, Glenn Foster, Robert Jackson, and Jonathan Oxenham.

  Maurice Eugene Foster

Franklin - Maurice Eugene Foster , age 86, (formerly of Indian Head, MD) died May 10, 2010 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. He was born October 11, 1923 in Cleveland, NC, the son of the late Maurice P. Foster and the late Mary Bobbitt Foster.

Mr. Foster was an item manager with the Department of Defense for over 15 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII in the European theater where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Franklin, NC and the Disabled American Veterans’ Post in White Plains, MD. He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in NC. He was an avid baseball fan, where he served as a coach on the Southern Maryland Baseball League. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and farming and was an avid Redskin and Orioles fan.

He was predeceased by his parents; late son, Charles G. "Greg" Foster; brothers, James and Henry Foster; and sister, Beulah Foster Berry.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Willa Mae Raby Foster; three sons, Maurice E. "Gene" (Julia) Foster, II of St. Leonard, MD, Michael (Sharon) Foster of Edgewater, MD, and Glenn (Barbara) Foster of Indian Head, MD; two daughters, Kitty Pat (Leo) Cummins of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gwen (Michael) Fitzgerald of Amherst, VA; one brother, Charlie (Helen) Foster of Hughesville, MD; two sisters, Laura (LeMoine) Wilkerson of Waldorf, MD, and Alma (Cecil) Padgett of Heathville, VA. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 from 5-8 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD and funeral was Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11 AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald (son-in-law of the deceased) officiating. Interment: Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Maurice E. "Gene" Foster III, Michael Foster II, Gabriel Fitzgerald, David Michael Oxenham, Bob Foster, Bobby Raby, Allen Wilkerson, and Bradley Berry.   Sarah Mallonee Fowler,

Franklin - Sarah Mallonee Fowler, age 67, of Ivy Hills Terrace, Franklin, NC passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 at her residence. She was a native of Macon County, NC, the daughter of the late George Mallonee and Edith Anderson Mallonee Froscher. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Walter "Walt" Fowler, two daughters, Revonda Barrs and India Mallonee Fowler both of Franklin, NC; one sister, Jane Mallonee Teasley of Blue Ridge, GA and one brother, George Mallonee of Lyerly, GA; two grandchildren, Lane and Ashley Barrs. She was preceded in death by her son, Billy.

Memorial services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Saturday January 5, 2008 with the Rev. Al Beck officiating.

Weaver Nelson Fox

Otto, NC - Weaver Nelson Fox, age 92, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at his daughter’s residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Elisha and Millie Blackburn Fox. He was a US Army Sergeant during World War II, and received a bronze star, He retired in 1982 from Zickgraf Lumber Company after 30 years service. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved shape-notes gospel singing. He was a member of Newman Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Director, Disciple Training Union Director, Deacon, and Choir Director.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Coggins Fox, three daughters, Deanna Rogers and husband Bill of Greenville, SC, Wanda Ashe and husband Mike of Webster, NC, and Carolyn Fouts and husband Junior of Franklin, NC; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 4:00pm at Newman Chapel Baptist Church, with Revs. Gene Hawkins, Clark Sheffield, Jonathan Lunsford, and Danny Cannon officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Ernest Chastain, Joe Buchanan, Chris Norton, Edward Holland, Eddie Fox and Bruce Fox will serve as pallbearers. The Franklin VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00pm, Friday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the Church thirty minutes prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Carolyn Fouts, 417 Wayah Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

William Burlin Frady

Franklin, NC - William Burlin Frady, age 68 of Franklin, NC passed away, Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Transylvania Co., NC the son of the late William Webster Frady and Shirley Mae Warren Frady. He was a construction worker and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed helping others.

He is survived by his long time companion, Doris Hodgins; one daughter, Lisa Frady; three sons, James Frady, Benny Lee Frady and John Frady; two sisters, Edna Owens and Vera Cartee; three brothers, Doug Frady, David Frady and Preston Frady. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Anders and one brother, R.L. Frady.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Don Moffitt officiating. Burial will be held at the Sanders Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 28 from 2:00-3:00pm, one hour prior to service.

Blanche Cleta Cochran Franklin

Franklin, NC - Blanche Cleta Cochran Franklin, longtime resident of Franklin, NC, passed away December 17, 2008 at Mountain Trace Nursing Center in Webster,NC. She was born June 15, 1915 in Macon Co., NC. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Sam C. Franklin, II, her parents and all 5 of her brothers and sisters, making her the longest living member of her generation.

A grandmother of five and great-grandmother of seven, she is also survived by her daughter, Jane Luttrell of Franklin, NC; and three sons, Doug Franklin, of Hayesville, NC, Sam Franklin, III of Franklin, NC and Mike Franklin and his wife, Mandy of Greeneville, TN.

A hard worker all of her life, she was most proud of her job at the student union at NC State University and as a teacher’s aide at LBJ Job Corps in Franklin, NC. She was also proud to be a lifelong Baptist and member of Longview Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and spent much of her time cultivating her garden and tending the many beautiful flowers surrounding her home.

The family will receive friends at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin on Sunday, December 21st at 1:00pm, with the funeral service to begin at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service at Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery in Nantahala.

Margaret Hester Franks

Franklin - Margaret Hester Franks, 85, of Riverbend Road, Franklin, NC passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 in a Sylva NursingCenter. She was born in Jackson Co., NC. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Sarah Johnson Pressley. She was married to Jimmy Franks who passed away in 1997. She retired from Grandview Manor Care Center as a CNA. She was a member and former Sunday School Teacher of Emanuel Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved flowers, gardening and embroidering. Mrs. Franks loved to read her bible.

She is survived by three daughters, Christine Angel and her husband, Joe of Franklin, NC, Sara Holbrooks of Franklin, NC, Mildred Norman and her husband Henford (Tater) of Sylva, NC; four grandchildren, Michele Henry, Amanda Williamson, James and Mark Norman; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Makayla, Eli, Leah and J.D. Henry and Michael Norman. She was preceded in death by three sons, Louis Albert Franks, Carl Tillman Franks, and Herman Lee Franks; one grandson, Michael Norman.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 11, 2009 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Cloer, Rev. John Raby and Rev. Howard Southard officiating. Burial will be in the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Norman, Mark Norman, Billy Holbrooks, Kibby Henry Jr., Terry Wilson, Steve Wilson, Henry (Bubba) Sharpe, and J.D. Henry.

Dorothy Virginia Fish Frazier

Franklin - Dorothy Virginia Fish Frazier, age 89, of Franklin died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at her residence after a long illness. Born in Stecoah, NC on August 14, 1919, Dorothy was a life long resident of North Carolina and lived the last 4 years of her life in Franklin with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandson.

She was the daughter of the late Alden C. Fish and Martha Jane Gibson Fish.

She was the loving mother of two children, the late Harold Edward Frazier and Billie Frazier Guffie of Franklin.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a sister, Margaret Holt of Donaldsonville, GA; two brothers, David Fish and Vaughn Fish of Gastonia, NC.; seven grandchildren, Kathy Moose, Kim Fanene, the late Kenneth Grahl, Karen West, Kristy Brown, Eric Frazier and Mark Brown; sixteen great-grandchildren, Barbara Mayhue, Angie Guffey, Hughie Deese, Jay Dave, Christina Dave, Misty Fanene, Randy Guffie, Rodney Debty, Kennen Grahl, Zachary Brown, Joshua Frazier, Jordan Frazier, Kalani Frazier, Kolby Frazier, Brayden Frazier and Jacob Brown; twelve great-great-grandchildren, Kaleb Dave, Kolby Dave, Michelle Deese, Corey Deese, Gregory Deese, Savannah Fanene, Stephen Tuck, Emily Tuck, Josh Mayhue, Casey Mayhue, Kenny Penrod and Justin Penrod; one great-great-great-grandchild, Dakota Mayhue; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Brother Jerome Schott Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Zachary Brown, Eric Frazier, Phil Johnson, Pete Ray, Jim Keys and Don Carman.

Fred Freeman, Jr

Franklin, NC - Fred Freeman, Jr., of Nashville, TN formerly of Sylva, NC passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009 at a Nashville Care Center. He was born in Tennessee, the son of the late Fred Freeman, Sr. and and step-mother, Verlon Freeman. He was a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Alice and Vickie Freeman of Franklin, NC; three grandchildren, Jordon Howell, Andre McDonald and Zackary McDonald.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Superintendant C W Johnson and Elder J. W. Gary officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Greg Hall, Willis Chavis, Michael Chavis, Jimmy Bryson, Alex Hall and George Burgess will serve as pallbearers.

Virginia (Gin) Webb French

Highlands, NC - Virginia (Gin) Webb French, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 in her home in Highlands, NC where she had lived since 2005. She was born September 29, 1922 in Atlanta, GA. She was the third generation of her family to graduate from Girl’s High in Atlanta, GA. She worked in a variety of occupations, choosing to work outside the home until she retired in 1986 from French’s Ice Cream Company where she was a partner for 20 years.

Gin enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, a past time she began early in life. Other hobbies included sewing, gardening, ceramics and painting. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Gin was an ageless, beautiful woman who will be remembered for her sweetness and engaging smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William (Bill) French who died in 1995 and her granddaughter, Shane Lea Pruett, who died in 2005. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Tommy) Clark of Highlands, NC, Cherry (Joe) Bittick of LaGrange GA and her son, Buck (Kim) French of Highlands, NC; two grandchildren, Dawne Raulet of Atlanta, GA and Jeff Clark of St. Petersburg, FL; three great grandchildren, Grace Raulet and Charlie Raulet of Atlanta, GA and Brittany (Jarret) Flexman of Boston, MA; and one great-great grandson, Ethan Flexman.

A celebration of her life was held at the clubhouse in Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, May 31. A graveside service will be held in Atlanta at Westview Cemetery, Section 19 on Wednesday, June 8 at 11 a.m. with a reception for friends and family afterwards. Remon T. Fouts

Waynesville - Remon T. Fouts, 83, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, August 3, 2009, at Harris Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Franklin, born on March 8, 1926 to the late W. T. and Mary Aldora Rickman Fouts. Remon later moved to Sylva where he resided for 16 years, then moved to Waynesville in 1966. He was a member of Emma Baptist Church in Asheville where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendant. He was a former member and Deacon of Grandview Baptist Church in Waynesville. He worked as a sales representative for Swift, FCX, Southern States and Spartan & Grain. During his career, he won several sales awards. In his retirement years, he worked as a funeral assistant for various funeral homes throughout Haywood and Jackson Counties. He enjoyed being around people and never met a stranger. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Marshall Fouts; and three sisters, Lois Franklin, Frances Taylor, and Dessie Mae Guyer.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sorrells Fouts; a son, Avery Fouts of Spartanburg, S.C.; a daughter, Patti Fouts Rutledge and her husband, David, of Asheville; two brothers, Merritt Fouts of Franklin, and William R. Fouts of Triangle, Va.; a sister, Doris Lynch of Franklin; three grandchildren, Jared, Ben and Jessica Rutledge; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Israel.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations, with the Revs. Paul Sorrells, Wayne Sorrells, and Tommy Fouts officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Franklin, NC - Anne Elizabeth (Betty) Frye 73 of Franklin, NC died Friday May 9, 2008 in an Asheville, NC, hospital. She was a native of

Dodge County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Olga Zuehlke Dieringer, and the wife of the late Wayne Frye who died in 2001. She was a member of the Franklin Fitness Center, and was the owner and operator of Sleepy Hollow Cottages in Cowee Valley, NC, and was a protestant.

She is survived by three daughters Sandra Coronodo of Allenton, WI. Karen Anderson of West Bend, WI. Colleen Varnandoe Dickson, TN. Three sons Steve Anderson, of Lake Charles, LA, Keith Anderson of Franklin, NC, and Jim Schneider of Elmore, WI. Two brothers Robert Dieringer of St. Anthony, WI, and Donald Dieringer of Hartford, WI. Fifteen Grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

There will be a gathering of friends, and a visitation, Tuesday May 13, 2008 from six until seven PM, with a service to follow, at seven PM with the Rev. John Raby officiating at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Franklin - Gastonia -Larry Eugene Fullbright, 61, of, Franklin, NC, died Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at Angel Medical Center.

Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the beach. He was a member of Fifth Ave. Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a native of Gaston County, and the son of the late George McCullah Fullbright and Tenza Marie Jacobs Fullbright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild, Little Wayne Sanders, his brother, Kenneth Fullbright and a sister, Juanita Cape. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne Hedden Fullbright of Franklin; sons & daughters-in-law, Larry Wayne & Lorinda Sanders of Gastonia; John Henry & Angela Fullbright of Franklin; Jimmy Self of Gastonia; daughter & son-in-law, Angela & Gary Guill of Gastonia; sister & brother-in-law, Camilla & John Lindsay of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Wesley Sullivan, Damon Sanders, Harley Sanders, Alexandria Fullbright, & Christian Fullbright; numerous nieces & nephews.

O. V. Fuller

Candler - O. V. Fuller, age 80, of Wild Bird Lane died on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at his residence. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Garfield and Hester Sizemore Fuller. He was also preceded in death by two sisters. He was a member of Fairmont Baptist Church and enjoyed singing gospel music.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillie Mae Ramsey Fuller; a son, Ernest Fuller and his wife, Cynthia, of Candler; three daughters, Belinda Hall and her husband, Donald, of Candler, Juanita Offenburger and her husband, Jerry, of Asheville, and Carol Annette Fuller of Candler; a sister, Frances Ramsey of Candler; two brothers, Earl Paul Fuller of Blythe, GA and Woodrow Fuller and his wife, Pat, of Barnardsville; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend David Hall and Reverend David Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Tellico Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Franklin - Mrs. Grace M. Fulton, 82, of the Clarks Chapel Community died Saturday, April 18, 2009 in a Franklin, NC Hospital. She was a native of Macon County, NC, the daughter of the late William Rowland Higdon and Georgia Lee Corbin. She was a homemaker and a member of Higdonville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 63 yrs., John Robert Fulton, of Franklin, NC; one daughter, Carolyn Rebecca Fulton of Beach Park, IL; one son, James Robert Fulton; one sister, Mary Bess Smith of Edgemore, SC; one brother, Wade Huffman Higdon of Franklin, NC; one grandchild, Audrey Gray of Franklin, NC; four great-grandchildren, Kristen Kana, Justin Gray, Benjamin Gray and William Gray all of Franklin, NC.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20 at 2:00 PM at Higdonville Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Hawkins and Rev. Lester Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Mary Halley Furr

Mary Halley Furr, 75, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours on February 1st, ending her long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in County Sligo, Ireland, the oldest of three children of the late Kathleen Shryane and William Halley. A graduate of Lenox Hill Nursing School in New York and St. Agnes Hospital School of Anesthesia in Philadelphia, Mary relocated to Miami in 1956, where she worked as a nurse anesthetist at St. Francis Hospital, North Miami General Hospital, Hialeah Hospital, Palm Springs Hospital, North Shore Hospital and Baptist Hospital. She retired as Chief CRNA of Kendall Anesthesia Associates in 1996 and relocated to Cashiers, NC where she maintained a residence with her husband, Dr. Walter E. Furr, Jr. Mrs. Furr was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush as a volunteer for the Ombudsman Program for Long Term Care in Crystal River, FL and was also a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Republican Club of Citrus County and the Alumnae Association of Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing. In the words of her friends, "Mary blazed the trail for many a CRNA", "She had a way about her that put everyone at ease while at the same time being a very effective leader, role model, and mentor", "We, as friends, are extraordinarily lucky to have had part of our lives shared with your Mom and Gene. Those times have certainly added to the value of our lifetime." Mary was a unique and inspiring woman who touched the lives of all those she came into contact with. She will be missed as a mother, sister, wife and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter E. Furr, Jr., her brother, Thomas Halley, her son, Kenneth W. O'Keefe, daughters, Katherine M. Honey and Karyn I. Cunningham and her loving grandchildren, Megan, Cameron and Brennan.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 12 at 10:00 AM at: Bryant-Grant Funeral Home 105 West Main Street Franklin, NC 28734
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
