Dorothy Richardson

Highlands, NC
- Dorothy
Richardson Jackson went home to be with the Lord, January 13, 2012
at the Fidelia-Eckerd Living Center. Miss Dot, as she was called,
moved to Chestnut Hill of Highlands in 1996. A native of Nashville,
Tennessee, she was educated, lived and worked there with her husband
of 59 years, Robert Lee Jackson, until his death in 1994. She is
survived by her daughter, Carolyn Jackson Patton, and son-in-law,
C. Clement Patton. There are four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Dots career
covered everything from writing radio and television scripts, designing
billboard advertisements, writing for newspapers and magazines,
as well as advising Baptist Bookstore managers on advertising while
she worked for the Southern Baptist Convention.
Dot co-established
an international program at her church where they taught English
as a Second Language to women from other countries whose husbands
were working in Nashville. The program expanded to include child
care, evening classes for the working husbands, Bible Study, choir,
hobbies and gardening as well as enrichment classes for the children.
During teaching ESL in Nashville for twelve years, Dot remembered
classes that included as many as eight different nationalities.
After coming to Highlands, Dot continued teaching ESL through the
Literacy Council at the Peggy Crosby Center. She served on the board
of the International Friendship Center.
Miss Dot enjoyed
living at Chestnut Hill in the apartments and later in the Assisted
Living Suites. She wrote many articles for the Highlands newspapers
about the people and events at Chestnut Hill. She was a member of
First Baptist Church, Highlands, and taught primary grades in Sunday
School.
A memorial service
will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist
Church of Highlands with Dr. Charles Harris officiating.. Memorial
remembrances can be made to the First Baptist Church of Highlands,
PO 625, Highlands, NC 28741.

James
Highlands -
Irene P. James age 103, of Highlands NC passed away Saturday May
2, 2009 in Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. She was a native of Macon
County and was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Cora Rogers
Picklesimer. She was married to the late Lawton P. James who died
1944 and was an Elementary School Teacher. She was a member of Highlands
United Methodist and United Methodist Women. Mrs James was a loving
mother, grand mother teacher. Mrs. James was a member of The Highlands
Chapter #284 OES .
Surviving are
two daughters, Wilma Gordon and Geri Crowe and husband Wayne of
Highlands, two sons Tom James and wife Hilda and Herbert James and
wife Barbara of Highlands. 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren
and 1 great-great-grandchild also survive. Mrs. James was preceded
in death by a daughter, Barbara Taylor.
Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 4th in the Highlands United
Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Christy officiating. Burial will
be in Scaly Mountain Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers will grandsons,
Allan James, Tommy James, Dana Gordon, Jeff James, John Gordon MichaelCrowe
and Billy Crowe.
The family will
receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, 1 hour prior to the service

Jenkins
Franklin, NC
- Clyde
Edgar Jenkins, age 89, of Hazel Park, MI, formerly of Macon County,
passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 in Southfield, MI. Clyde was born
on November 4, 1921. He was the son of the late Roy and Lula Barker
Jenkins.
Clyde retired
after 27 years of service as a custodian for the Hazel Park Schools.
He served in the U. S. Navy.
He was the dear
father of Dianne (Jim) Sptizer, Clyde (Nancy) Jenkins, Jr., Brian
(Jackie) Jenkins, Wayne Jenkins, Linda Jenkins and Virginia Sizemore;
grandfather of 17, great-grandfather of 21 and great-great-grandfather
of 3; brother of Bonnie Bowman and Mae Gibson. He was preceded in
death by six brothers and three sisters.
The family will
receive friends Sunday, July 17 from 2:00 till 7:00 pm, with a service
following visitation, at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Rev. Phillip
Cochran will officiate. A graveside service will be held Monday,
July 18 at 11:00 am at Riverview Methodist Cemetery.

Franklin,
NC - Ellie Alifair Jenkins, age 101, of Mashburn Branch Road, Franklin,
NC, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009 in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Henry
Talley and Lillie Pickleseimer Talley. She was married to the late
Adam Butler Jenkins. She was a homemaker and a member of The First
Baptist Church of Highlands. She enjoyed gardening and mowing her
lawn. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in
death by her sons, Harold Jenkins and Ronald Jenkins; a sister,
Gracie Keener and brother Ed Talley.
She
is survived by two daughters-in-law, Estella Jenkins and Viola Jenkins
both of Franklin, NC; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren,
seventeen great-great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew also
survive.
A
graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 30th at 3:00pm
at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Alton Dendy officiating.
Pallbearers will be Terry Jenkins, Alvin Mashburn, Shannon Jenkins,
Charles Mashburn, James Jenkins and Bradley Collins.
The
family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday evening

James Junior Jenkins
Highlands,
NC - Rev. James Junior Jenkins, age 76, of Highlands, NC passed
away Thursday, December 2, 2010. He was a native of Macon County,
the son of the late Jim and Ethel Wilborn Jenkins. He was married
to the late Constance ( Connie) Elizabeth Baty Jenkins who died
in 2007. He was a carpenter for over 60 years. He was called to
preach in 1964. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved his family,
music, and singing. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He
is survived by five children; three daughters, Ann Jenkins and Holly
Higgs & Regan of Highlands, NC; and Angela Passmore & Tony
of Sylva, NC; two sons, Robert Jenkins and fiancee Judy Fashing
of Frankin, NC and Bobby Jenkins & Brenda of Highlands, NC;
three sisters, Mary Baty of Highlands, NC, Effie Hunnicutt of Franklin,
NC and Phyllis Pearson of Seneca, SC; four brothers, Donnie Jenkins
and Billy Jenkins of Seneca, SC, Lewis Jenkins of Salem, SC and
Tommy Lee Jenkins; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Webb and Cindy
Carver, three sisters, Louise Clark, Helen Henry, and Rita Baty
and one great-grandchild.
Funeral
services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, December 4 at the First
Assembly of God Church in Highlands, NC with Rev. Oliver Rice officiating.
Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery. Sam Jenkins, Jimmy Jenkins,
Wiliam Passmore, Justin Passmore, Wayne Carver, Walter Wilson and
Roy Baty will serve as pallbearers.

NC - Thomas "Stumpy" Howard Jenkins, age 57, of Franklin,
NC passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his residence. He was a
life long native of Macon County, the son of the late Harley William
and Ruby Ester Gregory Jenkins. He was an auto mechanic and landscaper.
He loved CB radio, horseback riding, spending time with his family
and friends, and loved to watch wrestling and hunt. He was of the
Methodist faith.
He
is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Sue Fowler Jenkins: three
daughters, Ruby Beatrice Jenkins of Easley, SC; Teresa Lynn Jenkins
Golden and her husband, Carl and Kimberly Marie Jenkins both of
Franklin, NC; one sister, Ruby Mae Jenkins Cisneros of Franklin,
NC, five brothers, Clyde Richard Jenkins, Fred Jerry Jenkins, Nicky
Carlos Jenkins, Harold Ray Jenkins and Joseph Harley Jenkins all
of Franklin, NC. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy
William Jenkins and James Edgar Jenkins.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6:00PM in the

- Bennett Dexter Jennings, age 82, of Forest City, NC, formerly
of Jackson County, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at Carolinas
Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was a native of Jackson County,
the son of the late Frank and Margaret Bennett Leopard. He was a
US Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of Yellow Mountain
Baptist Church. He was retired Co-op Manager, and was manager of
Macon County Co-op for 15 years. He enjoyed playing Bluegrass Gospel
on his guitar, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith Bryson Jennings; a
daughter, Sheila Connor of Forest City, NC; a son Stephen Jennings
and wife Emma of Franklin, NC; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren
also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Jennings.
Funeral services
will be held Thursday, June 10th at 2:00pm at Yellow Mountain Baptist
Church, with Rev. Everette Wilson , Rev. Keith Ashe and Rev. Johnny
Norris officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be Tim Jennings, Monty Carter, Keith Connor, Bobby Connor,
Steven Connor, Kyle Jennings and Casey Jennings. The family will

Laura Johnson, age 92, of Mashburn White Road, Franklin, NC, passed
away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a native
of Macon County, the daughter of the late Lyman L. Sweatman and
Roxie Ann Nichols Sweatman. She was a homemaker and loved to garden,
can and freeze, cook and bake. She loved the family gatherings.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her three son-in-laws
were very special in her life as well. She was a member of Cartoogechaye
Baptist Church. She was married to the late G. Frank Johnson, who
passed away in 1974.
She
is survived by three daughters, Jessie Wilson of Sylva, NC, Shirley
Dillard and her husband Earl and Evelyn Southard and her husband
Stan all of Franklin, NC; four grandchildren, Terry Wilson, Steve
Wilson, Kathy Dillard and Marty Southard; five great-grandchildren
also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Ann
Ruff.

services will be held Saturday, September 13th at 1:00pm, in the

Iowa, the daughter of the late David C. and Susan Patton Reager.
She was married to the late Orlan C. Johnson. She was a homemaker
and attended Cowee Baptist Church.
She
is survived by six sons, Richard J. Johnson and his wife, Flo of
Tualatin, Oregon, Timothy O. Johnson and his wife, Blanca of Grantsburg,
WI, Nathan P. Johnson and his wife Jeri of Franklin, NC, Joel W.
Johnson and his wife, Claire of Grantsburg, WI, Bradley P. Johnson
and his wife, Elizabeth of Naples, NY and Samuel V. Johnson of Grantsburg,
WI. Fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death
by a son, David L. Johnson.

SC - Kenneth Eugene "Sid" Johnson, age 79, of Tamassee,
SC, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at Oconee Medical Center.
He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Grover Cleveland
Johnson and Ada Nix Johnson. He was a construction worker and of
the Baptist faith. He was a US Army Veteran having served during
the Korean War, and was a former member of the American Legion.
He loved to hunt, fish and was a tinkerer.
He
is survived by a daughter, Tina Coleen Raynor and husband Kelly
of Dunn, NC; a son, Mark Johnson and wife Jodi of Fletcher, NC;
a sister, Kathleen Wilson and husband Neville of Highlands, NC;
a brother, John Willard Johnson and wife Evelyn, of Tamassee, SC;
four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. He
was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, April 7th at 2:00pm in the Chapel
of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands, with Rev. John Rogers
officiating. Burial will be at Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dennie Jones, age 39, of Franklin, NC, passed away Saturday, March
12, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Jackson County, the son
of Reva Tallent Jones of Franklin, NC and the late Walter Dennie
Jones. He was a construction worker and attended Windy Gap Baptist
Church. He loved camping and fishing and was a knife, hat and cigarette
lighter collector.
In
addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Darlene Sizemore
and Vickie Patton both of Franklin, NC; an uncle, Wayne Tallent
and his wife Barbara. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Timmie Jones.
A
memorial service will be held Friday, March 18th at 2:00 pm in the
Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 Friday at the
funeral home.

- Dr. Edward Grant Jones, age 69, of Twin Lakes Drive, Highlands,
NC passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital.
He was born in Toronto, Canada the son of the late Edward William
Jones and June Lee Grant Jones. He was a research chemist for Innovative
Scientific Solutions Corporation in Dayton, OH and was a member
of the American Chemical Society.He was an accomplished squash player,
marathon runner and he enjoyed fishing.
He is survived
by his wife of 39 years, Susan K. Snyder Jones; two daughters, Laura
Jones Arnett of Savannah, Ga and Christine Jones McMillian of Milton,
VT; two sons, David Eric Jones and Gregory Edward Jones both of
Columbus, OH. Seven grandchildren also survive.

will be held July 2, 2011 in Dayton, OH.

Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Franklin,
NC, the son of the late Mack Jones and Claudette Chasse Jones. He
was a telephone contractor and owned his own business, Jones Communications.
He was a 1982 graduate of Franklin High School, and a graduate of
Haywood Technical College as a certified welder and plumber.
In
addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Leslie Jones
and husband Jonathon Leland of Pendergrass, GA; a son, Jerry Lee
Jones, Jr. of Franklin, NC; the mother of his two children, Cathy
Jones of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren, Hallee and Trae Leland;
nieces, Mackenzie Jones, Missy Pruett Sanders and Christy Pruett
Reeves and a nephew, Zachary Jones. He was preceded in death by
a brother, Ronnie Jones.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, February 17th at 12:00 noon in the
Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Ricky Potts officiating.

Jones Sloan, age 89, departed this world on Monday, December 19.
Lillian was born in Franklin, NC to Maud (Jacobs) and Gilmer Jones.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Bob Sloan, sisters Nancy Jones and Dorothy Chamberlain, and brother,
Andy Jones. She is survived by stepdaughters, Nancy Shope and husband
Jim and Timoxena Sloan and granddaughters, Connie Leadingham and
Amanda Shope. Other survivors include stepchildren from a previous
marriage, Timothy Rauton, Mary Rauton Weeks, Bill Rauton, Elizabeth
Rauton, Robert Rauton, and grandchildren, Hannah Haefeli, Harris
Weeks, Cee Cee Weeks, Chad Weeks, Julia Rauton and Luisa Rauton
all of Atlanta, GA. Lillian is also survived by several nieces and
nephews. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Franklin.
In her earlier
life, Lillian served overseas with the Red Cross during World War
II. While living in Atlanta, she owned her own business, Jones Secretarial
Services. Lillian loved the mountains especially Wayah Bald. One
of her passions was working on the genealogy of her family.

Franklin, NC - Lona Grace Jones, age 93, of Ned Hill Road, Franklin,
NC, went to be with her Lord,Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in a local
nursing home. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of
the late Will and Maggie Shepherd Gibson. She was married to the
late Arthur Jones, who passed away March 14, 1988. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and loved her Church
very much. Lona loved gardening, cooking and taking care of her
family.
She
is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Hardy and her husband Don,
Louise Womack and the late Jack Womack, Frances Tallent and her
husband Boyd, and Ernestine Shuler and her husband Paul all of Franklin,
NC; one son, Roy E. Jones and his wife Wanda of Franklin, NC; eleven
grandchildren seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren
also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Leon Jones;
one sister, and two brothers.

- Rolden William "Bill" Jones, age 82, of Highlands took
his final breath on this earth Sunday, March 29 at Highlands-Cashiers
Hospital. His life partner of 25 years, his sons, their wives, and
his two grandchildren held vigil with him as he peacefully went
to sleep.
Survivors include
his partner Billy Gray of Highlands; son Mark (Lynn) Jones, son
Bill (Kathy) Jones, daughter Carol McKay, and grandchildren Chris
and Carrie Jones (Mark Collins), all of Florida. Also surviving
are Billys sister, Debbie Pruitt, and her family.
A celebration
of Bills remarkable life and disposition of ashes will be
held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, at the Episcopal Church of
the Incarnation in Highlands. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to the Church of the Incarnation or the Churchs Haiti
mission.

Jones
Franklin, NC
- Sandra Elaine Jones, age 73, of Franklin, NC passed away Thursday,
June 21, 2012. Born in Hendry County, FL she was the daughter of
the late Henry Cecil and Anna Mae Dupuis Jones. She was married
to Wendell Jones for 52 years. She was a 1957 graduate of Clewiston
High School; a secretary and bookkeeper for U.S. Sugar Company for
23 years, and worked for Hendry County Florida School System as
a bus driver and teachers assistant. She attended Prentiss
Baptist Church.
In addition
to her husband, Mrs. Jones is survived by one daughter, Julie Jones
Follis of Maryville, TN; two sisters, Claire Vaughn and Cecile Watson
both of Highlands, NC, one brother, K. S. "Butch" Jones
of Moore Haven, FL and two grandchildren, Jordan and Jayme Follis.
Funeral Services
will be held Tuesday June 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Akin-Davis Funeral
Home. The Family will recieve friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday
June 25, 2012 at Akin-Davis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Mark
Deitz, John Perry, Rick Jones, Rick Shearer, Marty Jones and Raymond
Coots.

Dean Justice
Franklin,
NC - Gary
Dean Justice, age 41, of White Rock Ridge Rd., Franklin, NC passed
away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at his residence. He was a native
of Macon County and was the son of Dean and Susan Gregg Justice.
Gary worked as a carpenter and loved to camp and fish. He was a
1987 graduate of Franklin High School; a huge NASCAR fan and a big
Earnhardt fan.
Surviving
in addition to the parents are his fiancee, Sherri Cloud, one daughter,
Marcy Justice and one son, Cadon Justice both of the home. One sister,
Rebecca Sue Dryman of Franklin, NC also survives.
Funeral
services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the Chapel
of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Smith officiating. Burial
will be in Wright Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Ledford, Tim
Dryman, Mitch Queen, Daniel Brabson, Richard Salmonson, Chuck Billingsley,
Shane Queen, Jake Cloud and Paul Crisp.
The
family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening
at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.
