Isaac Newton Keener

Highlands, NC - Isaac Newton Keener, age 88, of Perquin Road, Highlands, NC passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his residence. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Isaac N. and Martha Calloway Keener. He was married to Emma Louise Henry Keener who passed away in 1993. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was a carpenter and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Munger of Highlands, NC and Peggy Lee Reese of Herndon, VA; two sons, Tony Keener of Enterprise, AL and Michael N. Keener of Highlands, NC; two sisters, Myrtle Macky of Franklin, NC and Maggie Gaynor of New Port Richey, FL. Eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands with Rev. Walter Wilson and Rev. Everett Brewer officiating. Christoper Reese, Jason Reese, David Reese, Joseph Keener, Justin Odom, and Jeff Munger will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be at Highlands Memorial Park.

The American Legion Post #108 and Franklin VFW Post #7339 will conduct complete military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 16 from 1:00-2:00PM, one hour prior to service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Coy Killian Kerr

Topton, NC - Coy Killian Kerr, age 40, of Concord, NC, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008. He was a native of Los Angeles, CA, but had lived most of his life in North Carolina. He was the son of Weldon and Betty Lee Duvall Kerr of Topton, NC. He was a pipefitter for A-1 Fire Control, and was a US Army Veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Albert Kerr and his wife Angela of Andrews, NC; a half brother, Robert H. Wood of Aquone, NC and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a half brother, James Wood and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31st at 1:00pm in the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews. Burial will be at Aquone Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00pm, one hour prior to the service at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.

Norman Edward Kerzic

Naples, FL - Norman Edward Kerzic, age 94, of Naples, FL, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, in Franklin, NC. He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Frances Kerzic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy F. Hennies Kerzic. He was a salesman for a copperwire company.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley A. White of Boston, MA, a son, Dick Kerzic of Franklin, NC; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Mlakar and Dorothy Kerzic.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Cleveland, Ohio.

Eleanor Frances Kirkland

Otto, NC - Eleanor Frances Kirkland, age 70, of Creek Road, Otto, NC passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Hamilton Co., Ohio the daughter of the late Robert Norton and Mae Richardson Johnson. She was a CNA at Britthaven Nursing Home and she loved to play Bingo.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Floyd O. Kirkland; four daughters, Mary Gregory and her husband Ricky of Franklin, NC, Lisa Kirkland of Burton, MI, Trisha Kirkland of Andrews, NC and Chris Chase and her husband Tim of Franklin, NC; one son, Gary Kirkland and his wife Leila of Otto, NC; one sister, Evelyn Genovese of Novi, MI; six grandchildren, Daniel Gregory, Jeremy Gregory, Kelli Kirkland, Brandon Kirkland, Brittney Chase and Jaimee Chase; one great-granddaughter, Tiana Gregory. She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Pierson and a brother, Leonard Tatman.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21 at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Gary McCoy and Rev. Rick Potts officiaiting. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Fannie Jane Watson Kirkland

Sylva, NC - Fannie Jane Watson Kirkland, age 77, went to be with the Lord and her family, Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Mountain Trace Nursing Home in Sylva, NC. She was a native of Jackson County, NC the daughter of the late Grover and Leona Franklin Watson. She was married to the late Glenn Thomas Kirkland. She was a homemaker and a member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. She worked at High Hampton Inn and Cashiers sewing plant. She loved gardening and crafts.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Bryson Moss and her husband John of Yellow Mtn., NC and Laqueta Krikland Childers and her husband, Dennis of Salem, SC; two sons, Wayne Fred Bryson and Keater Kirkland both of Yellow Mtn., NC; one brother, Ira Grover Watson and his wife Aileen of Gastonia, NC. Six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Jaydon David Parris, that she didn’t get to know. She was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Bryson and Theron Thomas Kirkland; and one sister, Ina Watson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 PM at Yellow Mtn. Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Ashe and Rev. Johnny Norris officiating. Burial will be held at Pine Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands where the body will remain until placed in the Church thirty minutes prior to service.

William Thomas (Tommy) Kirkland

Franklin, NC - William Thomas (Tommy) Kirkland, age 68, of South Skeenah Road, Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 in a Franklin hospital. He as a native of Swain County, the son of the late Pearley and Hattie Woody Kirkland. He was a retired farmer, and a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorri Allen of Clayton, GA , one son, Mark Kirkland of Clayton,GA; two sisters, Alene Hodgins and her husband Clarence of Dewy Rose, Georgia, and Epsie Blaine of Franklin, NC; two brothers, Grady Kirkland and his wife Nell of Franklin, NC; and Jess Kirkland and his wife Bev of Mt. Home, Idaho; three grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Stamey, and a brother Frank Kirkland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6th at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Dryman officiating. Burial will be at Black Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Stamey, Jason Stamey, Jimmy Hodgins, Kenneth Blaine, Johnny Ammons and Clinard Kiser.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm, Thursday, one hour prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

William Edward Kuipers, Jr

Wellington FL / Sapphire - William Edward Kuipers, Jr., of Wellington, Florida, passed away at his summer home in Sapphire, North Carolina on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Bill was 78 years old.

A long time resident of Ridgewood, New Jersey, he graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Business Administration and Finance in 1952. He entered the U. S. Army upon graduation and after serving for two years in the Signal Corps, he was recruited by the IBM Corporation. After a distinguished career with IBM, he joined the family business, Haband Company, in 1964 as a principal and director.

In 1976, he moved the family to the last working horse farm in residential Ridgewood, New Jersey, where they bred thoroughbred horses. The small but picturesque farm was a labor of love and source of great fulfillment.

He retired from Haband in 1986 and moved to Wellington, Florida.

Bill was a man known for his benevolence and many good deeds. He was on The Vestry of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Ridgewood for many years and served as Warden and Lay reader. He also served as Scout Master for Troop 7 in Ridgewood, where he had the privilege of helping both of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He was on the board of the YWCA in Ridgewood. He supported numerous worthy charitable organizations in New Jersey and Florida including the Valley Hospital Foundation.

An avid golfer, he was a former member of Arcola Country Club in Paramus, NJ, and Palm Beach Polo Golf and Country in Wellington, FL. He and his wife, Amanda, recently joined the Wanderers Club in Wellington, FL and The Country Club of SapphireValley in Sapphire, North Carolina. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Wellington, FL.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amanda Holloway Kuipers, and his children and their families: William & Dawn Kuipers III of Haskell, NJ; John & Cyd Kuipers of Jupiter, FL, and Marie & Ron Shepard of Beulah, MI. He was very proud of his granddaughters, Allison, Jennifer and Valerie Kuipers of Jupiter, FL.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or Fishes and Loaves,c/o Macon Bank, Hwy. 64 East, Cashiers, NC 28717.
