Franklin/Sylva,
NC - Margaret Edythe MacDonald, age 93, of Garland Buchanan Rd.,
Sylva, NC passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 in a Franklin care
center. Born in Oswego Co., NY, she was the daughter of the late
Hayward and Mildred Brandow Pettingill. She was married for fifty-five
years to the late Wallace John MacDonald who died June 4, 1997.
She was a secretary for West Utica Elementary School in the Macomb
County School System.
She
is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Ann Smith and husband Joe Michael
of Sylva, NC and Laurie Jean Pellerito and husband John of Enterprise,
AL; three grandchildren, Christopher and Lori Fultz, Rhonda and
Darwin Stark and Michael and Jake Pellerito and four great-grandchildren,
Alexandria Fultz, Taylor Fultz, Olivia Stark and Barak Zander Pellerito.
A

Harry Kenneth
MacDougall, Jr.
Highlands -
Harry Kenneth MacDougall, Jr. was born July 16, 1928 to Dorothy
Lucille Trinkle and Harry Kenneth MacDougall, Sr. in Willoughby,
Ohio (suburb of Cleveland). They moved to Miami, Florida in 1929.
Harry was a
graduate of Andrew/Miami Jackson High, attended the University of
Florida and the University of Miami. He graduated in 1959 with a
BA in business.
He served as
Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, in 1953 1954.
While working
at Home Federal Savings & Loan he met the love of his life,
Della Lucas.
After 42 years
he retired from Home Savings Bank/Wachovia, in 1996.
Harry was loving
and generous to his family and friends. He was always known as the
eternal optimist; he loved the Lord, cherished his family,
and lived life to the fullest.
Harry is survived
by: wife, Della; daughter and her husband, Heather & Joe Mangum;
son and his wife, Mickey & Dawn Lucas; brother, Malcolm MacDougall;
sisters, Shirley Landgren and Pam Kuykendall; their children, grandchildren,
and great grandchildren.
Memorial services
will be held Thursday, November 13 at 10:00AM at the First Presbyterian
Church of Highlands, NC.

- Mickey Eugene Mace, 31, of Franklin, NC died Saturday July 16,
2011 in a Franklin Hospital. He was a native of Jackson County.
He was the son of Larry and Claudine Fox Mace, Sr. He worked for
Wal-Mart; he held an orange belt in Shotokan. He was a member of
Faith Baptist Church and was a former usher.
He is survived
by his wife of 11 years, Tracy Green Mace of Franklin, NC; one sister,
Claudia Mace of Sylva, NC; two brothers, Larry Mace, Jr. of Otto,
NC and Eddie Mace of Glenville, NC.
Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist
Church with Rev. Brian Holland and Rev. Charles Dean officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Crest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick
Mashburn, Rodney Sanders, Ethan Mace, Adrian Mace, Anthony Mace,
Steven Mace, Nathan Aydelotte and Colton Harden. The family will

- Garry Reynolds MacLean, age 58, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday,
March 17, 2010 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was
born in Poughkeepsie, NY, the son of Donald (Jack) MacLean and Lois
Garrison MacLean of Franklin, NC. He was an electrical contractor
and owned his own business, MacLean Electrical Contracting. Garry
was well loved by all who knew him, he was a kind soul who helped
many in the community. He was always smiling, never had a complaint,
happy to do everything himself. He spoke softly and carried a big
stick. He would want his friends and family to celebrate his life
rather than to mourn his death. Garry has done everything and done
it well, he enjoyed being and working outdoors, motorcyles, cars
and tractors. Garry actively pursued the protection of liberty and
freedom for all Americans.
In
addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 36 years,
Dianne Segall MacLean; two sons, Andrew Reynolds Jacob MacLean of
Franklin, NC and Eric Ryan MacLean of Franklin; one brother, John
Scott MacLean of Redondo Beach, CA.
A
celebration of life for Garry will be held Wednesday, March 31 at
2:00 PM at the Franklin Covenant Church with Rev. John Makinson
officiating. Friends and family are welcome.

Ione Ledbetter Madison, age 85, of Bumgarner Lane, Franklin, NC,
passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 in a Sylva hospital. She was
a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Harley and Essie
Carpenter Ledbetter. She was married to the late Arnott Madison.
She was a bookkeeper for Morrison Cafeteria, and a member of Bay
Meadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. She was a graduate of
Franklin High School, class of 1944.
She
is survived by a step-son, Bill Madison of Franklin, NC; four sisters,
Katherine Sanders of Longview, Washington, Alice Southard and Florence
Taylor both of Franklin, NC, and Margaret Rhodes of McKinleyville,
California; one brother, Homer Ledbetter of Minerva, Ohio, one grandchild,
Britt Reynolds also survives. She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Sandra Linton, three sisters, Edna Huscusson, Annie Kell and Estelle
Potts, also a brother, Lyman Ledbetter.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, October 30th at 2:00pm in the Chapel

Hal
Hawley Mahuron
Franklin
- Hal
Hawley Mahuron, age 84, Franklin, NC passed away Monday, September
22, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born in Seward Co., KS,
the son of N.B. and Mabel Reed Mahuron. He was a US Army Veteran
of WWII. Hal was a Captain in the 186th Combat Infantry Division.
He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Bronz Star,
and the Southern Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the World War
II Victory Medal. Following the Enola Gay and the bombing of Hiroshima,
Hal arrived in Hiroshama three weeks later as part of the Occupational
Forces.
Hal
was part of the NASA project in 1969 in Americas successful
landing a man on the moon. He was an employee of General Electirc
for thirty five years. He served on the Boards of Elders in various
Christian churches and organizations throughout his lifetime.
He
is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Myers Mahuron; one daughter,
Lisa Mostrom and husband, Dr. Paul Mostrom of Ballston Spa; NY,
one son, Mark Alan Mahuron and wife Beverly of Orlando, FL; one
sister, Rebecca Ann Petty of Liberal, KS. He is survived by four
grandchildren as well.
Memorial
services will be held Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 PM at the First
Alliance Church with Rev. Mitch Schultz and Larry & Susan Pons
officiating. The VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will
perform complete military rites at the Presbyterian Columbarium,
White Oak Street, Franklin, NC.
The

Michael Malinovsky
Charleston SC
- Dr. Michael R. Malinovsky of Charleston, SC, formerly of Franklin,
NC, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, after a long, hard-fought
battle with cancer. He was 67.
Born in Chicago,
Illinois on July 1, 1940, Dr. Mike received his B.A. from Depauw
University in 1962, his Masters in Clinic Psychology from the University
of Florida in 1964, and his M.D. from Washington University in St.
Louis, Mo. in 1969. Board certified in internal medicine, he began
his medical career as a Naval physician (at Portsmouth Naval Hospital
and then Naval Hospital Jacksonville) before moving into private
practice (first in Franklin, NC and most recently in Charleston,
SC at Roper Hospital's Kiawah-Seabrook Medical Center).
Throughout his
life, he took every opportunity to live life to the fullest. Dr.
Mike felt privileged to practice medicine and honored to care for
and get to know the many patients he treated over the years. He
enjoyed the professional rapport and the personal friendships he
shared with his many colleagues and co-workers. Outside of the office,
he was an avid photographer, gardener, woodworker, reader, traveler
and Civil War buff, and he took great pleasure in the friendships
he made as he pursued these interests. But to him his greatest joy
and his time most well-spent was with his family and close friends,
especially his wife of 46 years, Susan O'Hare Malinovsky, his children,
and his grandchildren. Whether it was coaching or watching sporting
events, hiking in the mountains, biking around the islands, playing
on the beach, boating in the rivers, or just visiting with friends,
he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle
and friend.
He had a unwavering
will to live a full and active life and an unfailing positive attitude
in times of challenge and adversity. He touched many lives and many
hearts. To know him was to love him. He will be dearly remembered
and greatly missed.
In addition
to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jessica M. Traynham
(Easley, SC) and Jennifer D. Malinovsky (Atlanta, GA); a son, Michael
O. Malinovsky and daughter-in-law, Robin B. Malinovsky (Atlanta,
GA); six grandchildren, (Sawyer, Nicholas, Carson, Michael, Christopher
and Taylor); his mother, Virginia Malinovsky; sister, Susan Trembley;
and brother, Donald Malinovsky (all of Orlando, FL), and numerous
cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service
is planned for Saturday, May 31, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., St. John's
Parish, 3673 Maybank Highway, John's Island, SC 29455.
In lieu of flowers,

and Marrow Transplant Unit at Roper Hospital, 316 Calhoun Street,

NJ and the late Edward Valentine James, Sr. She was married to the
late Bill Mallory. She had worked for Walmart as a sales telephone
operator. She attended Mt. Sinai Assembly of God Church.

addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Sharon
Alice Dorsey of Tyler, TX and Susan Marie McMullin of Middleburg,
FL; two step-daughters, Charlene Abbadie of Middleburg, FL and Debbie
Reynari of Hollywood, FL; two sons, Thomas Edward Barlow of Hollywood,
FL and David Andrew Barlow of Franklin, NC; two sisters, Phyllis
Ann Noecker of South Hampton, N.J. and Florence Morgan of Arlington,
TX; Jack Christian James of Ferris, TX. Eleven grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death
by a brother, Edward Valentine James II. A private memorial service

He was a carpenter, and attended Prentiss Church of God. He built
and drove race cars, and was an avid fisherman.

Lynn Mallory Bolduc and Jerry, of Ocala, FL, Debra Ann Mallory of
Miami, FL and April Marie Lynn Mallory Marchant and Scott of Phoeniz,
AZ; two sons, Andrew Franklin Mallory of Massachusetts and Mark
Aaron Mallory of Franklin, NC; his loving companion, Jean Vanhook
of Franklin, NC and his loving ex-wife, Doris Mallory of Phoenix,
AZ; one sister, Ginger Mallory of Otto, NC; one brother, Duane L.
Mallory of Flagler Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Billye Michelle
Mallory of Ocala, FL, Sgt. Joseph Parris of Ft. Bragg, NC and Jeffrey

- Barry F. Mallory, SR. age 67 of Punta Gorda, FL went home to be
with the Lord July 15, 2008 at his home with his family at his bedside.
He was born april 14, 1941 in Miami, FL. Barry was a servant of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served in many ministries throughout
his life teaching and leading by example.
He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda and a member
of Gideons International Peace River Camp and a licensed and ordained
minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ at Mt. Elon Baptist Church
in Smith Creek, FL. Barry Loved fishing, hunting and was an accomplished
guitarist who enjoyed playing music with his family.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Ginger Mallory:
sons Barry (Terri) Mallory II and Robert (Martha) Mallory: daughter
Natalie (Vinny) Perrone; grandson, Vincent Perrone; grandaughters,
Ginger Perrone and Nichole (Andy) Wirgau; great-grandson Ezekiel
Wirgau; mother and father Jackie andKenney Everette, brothers Andrew
Mallory and Duane (Linda) Mallory and sister, Andrea Bridges.

John Kenneth
Marchman
Highlands -
John Kenneth Marchman passed away Friday September 7, 2012 at the
age of 56 after a brief illness.
Ken was born
in Atlanta on November 4th 1955 and grew up in the Buckhead area.
Ken was a third generation home builder working with his family
at Marchman and Sons before starting his own business. Ken attended
Marist High School and Georgia Southern College. Ken was so full
of life and his wit and humor will be remembered by all. He loved
being with family and friends and was always the life of the party.
Ken was an avid traveler and one of his favorite sayings was "Travel
is an education that you give yourself". Ken and his wife Kathy
were rarely seen apart. Their love for each other was apparent to
anyone they encountered. He lived his life by their song "Moon
River". Ken was also a writer and kept a daily journal which
many friends would love to read. Even though Ken's life was cut
short he lived life to the fullest every day. He was preceded in
death by his parents Vernon and Katherine Marchman, brother - Mike
Marchman.
He is survived
by his loving wife Kathy King Marchman, sister and brother-in-law
Carol and Stiles Kellett, brother - Marty Marchman, several nieces
and nephews. He was one of the best and will be missed by all those
who knew and loved him.

will be held on Tuesday September 18, 2012 at Our Lady of the Mountains
Catholic Church, Highlands, NC at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the

County, NC the son of the late Sanford and Ruby Corbin Mann. He
was married to Joyce Anderson Mann who passed away in 2007. He was
owner of Franklin Sheet Metal and was a member of Junaluska Lodge
#145. He was a member of Windy Gap Baptist Church. He loved old
cars, trucks, tractors and old engines. He was a loving father and
grandfather.
He is survived
by two sons, James Thomas Mann, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Franklin,
NC and Keith Eugene Mann and his wife, Terry of Franklin, NC; mother
of his children, Arlene Saunders of Franklin, NC one sister, Barbara
Ledford and her husband, Raymond of Webster, NC; three grandchildren,
Brandon Mann, Logan Mann and Heaven Conner Mann; special friends,
Martha & Elbert McConnell of Franklin. He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Marshall and Doug Mann.

Brooks. She had worked as a cook in a restaurant and at Clayburn
Manufacturing in Clayton, GA. She was a loving mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. She loved to sew, pick blackberries and flea
marketing and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived
by three daughters, Vicky Abell and her husband Robert of Hollywood,
Maryland, Linda Campbell and her husband Johnny and Carolyn Gibson
all of Franklin, NC; three sons, Fred Mathis, Harold Mathis and
Tommy Mathis all of Franklin, NC; two sisters, Marietta Crosby and
Diane Allen both of Greenville, SC; four brothers, Benny Brooks

and was of the Jehovah Witness faith. She loved doing crafts.

P. "Bobby" Marshall, age 74, of Marshall Cove Road, Franklin,
NC passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at an Asheville Hospital.
He was born in Alamance County, NC, the son of the late George Dewey
" Buck" and Nellie Maude Womack Marshall. He was a Veteran
of the US Army and was a member of the Franklin VFW Post #7339.
He was a meat cutter for Bryson Food Store and was a member of Union
United Methodist Church and attended Newfound Baptist Church. Mr.
Marshall enoyed repairing TVs and watching baseball.
He
is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edith Kraus Marshall; one daughter,
Donyela McCall and her husband, Mike of Cashiers, NC; one son, Ralph
Marshall of Franklin, NC; one sister, Deweyetta Nealis and Daryl
of Hampton, GA; five grandchildren, Justin Hicks, Joseph Marshall,
Jamie McConnell, Jackie Marshall and Patricia McCall; one great-grandson,
Colby James McConnell; two nephews, Bobbie Nealis and Rusty Nealis;
one niece, Leisa Phillips.

to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, March 31,
2010 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Macon County,
the son of the late Lawrence Grady and Jane Henry Mashburn. He was
a Veteran of the US Army. He was a heavy equipment operator and
he loved logging and carpenter work. Bruce was a member of the Ellijay
Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was very
active in the Church and Cemetery.
He
is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Higdon Mashburn; his
daughter, Tammy Lequire and her husband Russ of Franklin, NC; his
son Loyd Mashburn and his wife, Evelyn of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren,
Daniel Lequire and Megan Lequire; three sisters, Nina Wood of Franklin,
NC, Rosa Wood of Canyonville, OR and Alice Underwood of Yellow Mtn.,
NC; two brothers, David Mashburn and Dayton Mashburn of Franklin,
NC. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Vaughn and
Gertrude Mashburn, two brothers, Furman and Howard Mashburn.

Austin Mashburn, age 91, of Noah Gibson Road, Franklin, NC passed
away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was a native
of Macon County, the son of the late Ras and Anna Bryson Mashburn.
He was a US WWII Navy Veteran, where he worked in the ammunition
depot and served in several areas of the South Pacific Theatre.
He worked for Zickgraf Lumber, was a carpentry worker and attended
Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
He
is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Lee Pannell Mashburn;
two daughters, Martha Bates and her husband, Danny " Chuckie"
of Franklin, NC and Betty Annette Williams and her husband, Jim
of Clayton, GA; one son, Marvin Mashburn and his wife, Frankie of
Franklin, NC; one sister, Ella Mae Sykes of Mountain City, TN. Six
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. He was
preceded in death by a son, James David Mashburn, one sister, Effie
Tallent, three brothers, Otis Mashburn, George Mashburn and Charlie
Mashburn, one grandson, James David Mashburn, Jr.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, April 24 at 4:00PM in the Chapel

Hastings Mason. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening, camping
and fishing. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived
by his wife of 59 years, Maggie Ledford Mason of the home; two sons,

of Franklin, NC; one sister, Sarah Keener of Clayton, GA; one brother,
Frank Mason of Franklin, NC; six grandchildren, Toby, Jody, Zachery
and Amanda Mason, Shawnna Key and Ryan Dunn; six great-grandchildren,
Max, Makenzie, Landon, Tyler Mason, Wyatt and Chloe Key; several
nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by one sister, Julie Chastain; three brothers,
Earl, Woodrow and J.R. Mason.

Saturday, August 21, 2010 at a local nursing home. She was a native
of Macon County, the daughter of the late William C. and Sallie
Garland Ledbetter. She was married to James Mason who passed away
in 1984. She was the manager of Franklin 5 & 10 cent store and
was a member of Coweeta Baptist Church where she served as Church
Clerk for 28 years. She loved to be outside gardening.
She is survived
by three nephews, Barry Bateman, Bill VanHook, Toby Bateman; five
nieces, Karen Keener, Betty Dowdle, Beverly VanHook-Schrey, Marcia
Bateman and Sally Vinson. A number of other nieces and nephews also
survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Bateman,
Addie L. VanHook and a half-sister, Charlotte Henderson; one brother,
Woodrow Ledbetter, three half-brothers, Clarence Ledbetter, Gerald
Ledbetter and Rob Ledbetter.
Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, August 24 at 11:00 AM at Coweeta Baptist Church
with Rev. Davis Hooper officiating. Burial will be held at Rush

Highlands
- Elizabeth (Betsy) Lamy Mather, 87 passed away in Highlands, NC,
on January 1, 2010. The daughter of Verena Hogan and George Prosper
Lamy, she was born and educated in St. Louis, MO.
Betsy
married Nelson Gatch in St. Louis after WWII and had two daughters
(Ann & Jane). Nelson died shortly after Jane was born. Betsy
then married William Pierson Brodhead of St. Louis with whom she
had 6 children (William Jr., Robert, Peter, Dorothy, Lamy, Lisa).
In
1959 the family moved to Sarasota, Florida. In 1966, she married
Tim (Thomas W.) Mather of Sarasota, FL. Tim, the father of three
sons (Timmy, David, and Jeff Mather) took the entire family to live
in Barcelona, Spain for the years, 1967-1968. Betsy and Tim spent
their summers in Highlands, NC beginning 1970. In 1997 Tim passed
away.
Betsy
was active in the Catholic Church. She and Tim were founding members
of The Field Club of Sarasota.
Betsys
three husbands, her children Ann Tripp Gatch and Timmy Mather, and
sister Jane Gunter predecease her.
Betsy
leaves Jane Gatch Hayo of St. Louis; William Brodhead of Riegelsville,
PA; Robert Brodhead of Palm Harbor, FL; Peter Brodhead of Savannah,
GA; Dorothy Brodhead Bailey of Franklin, TN; Lamy Brodhead Buck
of Guyton, GA and Lisa Brodhead Howell of Ocala, FL as well as 14
Grandchildren and 3 Great-grand children.

2901 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota, FL on Saturday, January 16th at 10:00
AM. A reception will be held at The Field Club after the service.

NC went to be with the Lord October 4, 2010 in an Asheville hospital.
A
native of Macon County, he was the son of Mike Mathis of Asheville,
NC and Robin Duvall Spivey and step-father Kevin Spivey of Franklin,
NC. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. He worked in construction
as a house builder. He was a 2009 graduate of Franklin High School;
played football and baseball; was All Conference in baseball and
football; received the Panther Award in baseball; most valuable
player in football and was awarded team Athlete of the Year in 2008-2009.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Brittania
Henson and husband Aaron of Asheville, NC; two brothers, Derek Roland
and Michael Mathis both of Franklin, NC and two nephews, Eli and
Eland Henson. He is survived by maternal grandparents, Guy and Sandra
Duvall of Franklin, NC and paternal grandmother, Faye Mathis of
Asheville, NC. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather,
Fred Mathis.

Iotla Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Reeves, Rev. Jeff King and

member of the Highlands Rotary and the JC Club.

Myrtle Estell Van Horn and William Glenn McBride and stepmother
Norma Faye Brunson McBride. Donald was a retired School Principal.
He was a First Lieutenant in the US Army and was of the Lutheran
faith.

to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Claire
Wiggins.Donald is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Singer McBride;
one son, Donald Mark McBride; three daughters, Mary Beth McBride,

and Diane Arkwright and five grandchildren: Jonathan Baker, Benjamin

Makowski, Susan Egbert, Priscilla Blattner and Diane Westerlund;
five brothers, Steven, Richard, Roger, Daniel Westerlund and Tony

NC - Claudette Moses McCall, age 74, of Highlands Rd., Franklin,
NC passed away, Monday, January 24, 2011 at her residence. A native
of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Willie M. and
Pearl Woods Moses. She was married to Thomas Lloyd McCall for fifty-five
years. She was a salesperson for Belks Department Store for several
years and worked at Old Edwards Inn in Highlands. She was a loving
mother and grandmother; she loved to read cook books and loved to
cook; she was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
In
addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Randall Lloyd
McCall and wife Patricia of Franklin, NC and two sisters, Willene
Stanfield and Patsy Raby both of Franklin, NC. Two grandchildren,
Ethan and Erin McCall, also survive. She was preceded in death by
a sister, Peggy Moses Carpenter.

services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the

- James Frank McCall, age 91, of Highlands, NC passed away Tuesday,
November 6, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late
William Bryan McCall and the late Maude Conley Shope. He was a veteran
of the United States Army serving during WWII. He was a carpenter
and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He loved to hunt, fish, and make wooden bowls and lamps and loved
doing things for others. He was a member of Clear Creek Baptist
Church where he was former Sunday school superintendent and deacon
and trustee of Clear Creek Community Cemetery.
Mr. McCall is
survived by his wife of 65 years, Dolly Wilson McCall; two daughters,
Donna Ivie and husband Doug of Clarkesville, GA and Cheryl McCall
Wilson and husband Larry D. of Gainesville, GA; two sons, Bert McCall
and wife Stephanie and Yogi Craig McCall and wife Lynn J. all of
Highlands, NC; one sister, Vivian Chastain of Highlands, NC; three
brothers, Conley Bascombe Shope and Edd Lake Shope both of Otto,
NC and Fred Jess Shope of Lavonia, GA; eight grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters and four
brothers.
Funeral services
will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Clear Creek
Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Kinard and Rev. Everett Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Clear Creek Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will

He was a US Army Veteran and was retired from the Department of
Transportation. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church.
Dallas loved to fish and loved music.
He
is survived by his wife of 26 years, Annie Brooks McCall; one daughter,
Margaret and two sons, Jamie and Johnny; two step-sons, Brian and
David; three grandchildren, Katie, Michael and Terry; five sisters,
Cora McMurray, Dorothy Dietz, Mildred Giles, Margaret Sanders and
Karen Carnes; two sister-in-laws, Linda Garner and Lucille McCall.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joel McCall and two brothers,
Ken McCall and Bill McCall.

McCall. She was married to the late Tolliver E. McCall. She had
worked for the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands,
NC and for Highlands Biological Station. She was a member of Clear
Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she was a former Sunday
School Teacher and Bible School Teacher.
She is survived
by two sons, Carter McCall of Epworth, GA and Leon McCall and his
wife Earlene of Gainesville, GA; a sister, Lassie Norton of Acworth,
GA and a half-sister, Judy Goorey of Franklin, NC; a brother, Elmer
McCall of Franklin, NC; three grandchildren, Nancy Souther and husband,
Scotty, Diane Klin and Keith McCall; seven great-grandchildren also
survive.
In addition
to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters,
Pauline McConnell, Gladys Dendy and Margie McKinney; two brothers
Carl McCall and Hoyt McCall and also two infant brothers Herbert
and Harvey McCall; one grandson, Kenneth McCall; one great-granddaughter;
two daughters-in-law, Joan McCall and Sue McCall.

Harris both of Greensboro, NC. Three great-grandchildren, Damon
and Dawson Johnson and Dillon Vanhook. She was preceded in death

- Wilma Crawford McClure, 92, of Candler, went to be with her Lord
and beloved husband on Saturday, November 6, 2010.
She
is a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church and lived all of
her adult live in Candler after growing up in Haywood and Macon
counties. She devoted her life to her family, friends and church;
playing a significant positive role in the lives of four generations.
In addition she helped her community, delivering Meals on Wheels
as long as her health allowed.
She
is preceded in death by her husband, Herschel McClure; sister, Ruby
McCracken; brother, Paul Crawford; and parents Homer and Lillian
Crawford.
Surviving
are her sons, Dale McClure and wife, Jeanne of Fairview Beach, Va.,
and Dean McClure and wife, Elisabeth, of West Asheville; sisters,
Bernice Peebles, of Raleigh, and Norma Norton and husband, Perry,
of Franklin; and brother, Carl Crawford and wife, Donna, of Salem,
Ore. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren and their
spouses, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A
memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Groce
Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. David E. Peeler
officiating. Her family will receive friends an hour prior to the
service at the funeral home.

Jefferson McConnaughey died in Highlands, North Carolina on May
2, 2009 after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Cary
McConnaughey. She is survived by her sons, Jefferson and Joseph
McConnaughey, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Barksdale McConnaughey.
Mrs.
McConnaughey was the author of a cookbook, Two Centuries of
Virginia Plantation Cooking, that went through multiple printings.
She was also author of several abstracts of Amelia County, Virginia
deed books that were well-regarded in genealogical circles.

Plantation,
Florida - McCoy, Mac Mericus, age 85, of Plantation,
Florida, went to be with Jesus on February 13, 2009. Mac was born
in 1923 in the small community of Goldmine outside of Franklin,
North Carolina. He also lived in Pontiac, Michigan and Fort Lauderdale,
Florida.
He
served in the military as a sergeant in the Marines. He retired
after 32 years of service at the State Farm Insurance Co., as an
independent agent. He was a kind, loving and honest man that served
the Lord and was loved by those who knew him.
Mac
leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Barbie; son John (Brenda); daughter
Jill; sister Georgie (Lewis); stepchildren Laurie (David), Leigh
(Jack), Mark, seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Jayme), Christopher,
Casey (Jason), Courtney, Olivia, Alexa and Jackson. We will sorely
miss our Mac and thank our Lord for blessing us with his presence.

Billy Bruce McCoy.

1943 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Irvine
Newman and Lucile Carwile LaForce. She was a retired school teacher
with the Macon County School System, Franklin, NC for 20 years and
was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Naruna, VA. Mrs. McCoy

and his wife, Araceli of El Paso, TX and Joel McCoy and his wife,

"Tude" Rogers McCoy, age 67, of Hughes Lane, Franklin
passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in an Asheville hospital. A native
of Macon County, he was the son of the late William Carl and Emma
Dehart McCoy. He was married to Rita Ann Pendergrass McCoy for thirty-three
years. He owned McCoys Crane Service; was a loving husband,
father and grandfather; was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and
was a beekeeper. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and
attended Mt. Sinai Assembly of God.
In
addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Amanda McCoy
Benedict and husband Jared and Sheila McCoy of Franklin, NC; one
son, Donnie Marion of Franklin, NC; one sister Maxine Bradley of
Franklin, NC and one brother, Claude McCoy and wife Brenda of Durand,
MI. He is also survived by four grandchildren including Leighton
Benedict and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by one sister, Joann Hopkins and one brother, Dick McCoy.
Funeral
services will be held, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Oak
Grove Baptist Church with Rev. John Raby and Rev. Judson Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

NC and Reynoldsburg, OH passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at
an Ohio Hospital. She was born in Alvarado, VA the daughter of the
late Walker and Susan Wright Sweet. She was married to the late
Clyde W. McCrackine for 58 years before he passed in 1999. She had
worked at Glen L. Martin air craft in Baltimore, MD and the Big
Jack in Big Stone Gap, VA. She was also a seamtress and owned Cherokee
Ruby Mines in Franklin.
She is survived
by her daughter, Loretta Coulter and her husband Lary of Reynoldsburg,
OH and her son, Clyde J. McCrackine and his wife Pam of Pembroke
Pines, Florida. Three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and
a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services
will be held Friday, October 26, at 11:00 AM at Iotla Baptist Church
with Rev. Steve Reeves officaiting. Burial will be held at Iotla
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday,
October 25 from 6:00 8:00PM at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.

Thomas McDowell, age 49, of Otto, NC passed away, Sunday, December
2, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of Lucy "Merle"
Bradley Adameit and the late Thomas M. McDowell, Jr. He was a trainer
for the Hanes Textile Company for 21 years and loved golfing and
reading. He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition
to his mother, Charles is survived by two sisters, Linda Brown and
husband Tim of Demorest, GA and Janice Tyler of Mountain City, GA;
two brothers, Edward McDowell of Mountain City, GA and Tracy McDowell
of Otto, NC; one niece and two nephews. In addition to his father,
he was preceded in death by one nephew.

- Bonnie Lucille McGaha, age 75, of Franklin, NC passed away Friday,
October 28, 2011. Born in Macon Co., she was the daughter of the
late Fred and Leomia Stamey Sanders. She was married to J. D. McGaha
who died in 1998. Bonnie was a homemaker and was member of Burningtown
Church of God; she was a devoted Christian; she was a loving mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved reading her Bible and
doing word searches.
She is survived
by one daughter, Bonnie Marie Bates and husband Ronnie of Franklin,
NC; two sons, Danny Ray McGaha and wife Donna of Franklin, NC and
William David McGaha of Charlotte, NC, and one brother, Junior Sanders
of Franklin, NC. Seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren
also survive. In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was
preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Bates, Kate Hall and Ruth
Long and three brothers, James Sanders, Lawrence Sanders and Will
Sanders.

will be held Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel

NC - Robert Lee (R. L.) McGaha, age 87, of Bryson City Road, Franklin,
NC, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 in an Asheville hospital.
He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late James Fred
McGaha and Vinnie Matlock McGaha. He was married first to Mattie
Pearl Bryson McGaha, who passed away in 1995, and is survived by
his second wife Mary Gordon Seay McGaha.
He
was retired from the US Army, after 27 years of service. He served
during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. His service included
assignments in Panama, Guam, Germany, Thailand, South Korea, and
numerous stateside posts. His awards include the Combat Infantrymans
Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal,
the Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He
retired as a Command Sergeant Major.
He
was a member of Cowee Baptist Church.
In
addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Annie Lee Olive
and her husband Jerrel of Fuquay Varina, NC; a son, Bill McGaha
and his wife Stephanie of Franklin, NC, a step-daughter, Jennifer
Watts, and her husband Jerry, of Clayton, GA; two step-sons, Danny
Seay of Franklin, NC and Dale Seay, and his wife Denise, of Powder
Springs, GA; eleven grandchildren also survive. He was preceded
in death by a sister, Grace Pierrett.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, January 29th at 2:00pm at Cowee
Baptist Church, with Rev. David Powell and Rev. Tommy Fouts officiating.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post #7339
and American Legion Post #108 will conduct military graveside rites.

NC, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Macon County, a daughter of the late John and
Ida Welch Southards. She was married to the late George H. McCall,
who passed away in 1994. She loved all her family and friends, she
worked several years for Angel Hospital, because she loved the elderly.
She was a member of the Franklin Church of God.
She is survived by five daughters, Cora Mae MacMurray, Dorothy Deitz
and her husband Mark, Mildred Giles and husband Bruce, Margaret
Sanders and husband Skip, all of Franklin, NC; and Karen Carnes
and husband Robert of Sylva, NC; two sons, Kenneth McCall and his
wife Lucille, Dallas McCall and his wife Anna all of Franklin, NC;
21 grandchildren 22 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grand
Children A daughter-in-law Linda McCall Garner also survive. She
was preceded in death by a son, Bill McCall, who passed away in
1984, and two sisters, Faye Cabe and Nobia Allen.
A funeral service will be held Monday January 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM
in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Allan Taylor

McCall of Lincolnton, NC; one sister, Beth Corbin of Cashiers, NC;
eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by a son Ottis McCall.

William Bulgin McGuire, age 102, died on August 15, 2012. A resident
of Sharon Towers Retirement Community, he was born in Franklin,
NC, July 26, 1910, the son of Margaret Bulgin McGuire and William
Boyd McGuire. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Grace
Moseley Robinson McGuire.
He is survived
by four children and their spouses: Elizabeth McGuire Petty and
husband Douglas Cooper Petty of Alexandria, Va. and Vero Beach Fla.;
William Bulgin McGuire, Jr. and wife Susanne Hurst McGuire of Charlotte;
Dr. John O'Brien McGuire and wife Christine McArdle McGuire of Asheville,
NC; and Robert Boyd McGuire and wife Nancy Cooper McGuire of Charlotte.His
survivors also include nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Mr. McGuire
is best remembered for his sharp intellect, unquestionable integrity,
insightful wisdom and humble demeanor. He was a loving husband,
father, grandfather and great grandfather and took great pride and
pleasure in his family. After graduating from Franklin High School
he entered Davidson College and graduated in 1930. He served as
senior class president and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron
Delta Kappa honorary societies and Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity.
He graduated from Duke University Law School in 1933. In his last
year there he served as President of the Law School Student Bar
Association and was a member of the Order of Coif, an honorary scholastic
society. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. McGuire joined the
legal department of Duke Power Company, Charlotte, NC and continued
in the employment of that company until he retired in 1971. He served
as President of the company from 1959 to 1971. He also served as
a Trustee of the Duke Endowment from 1965 to 1988 and as a member
of the Board of the Charlotte Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank
of Richmond. He received honorary degrees from Davidson College
and Pfeiffer College. He was a member and elder of Myers Park Presbyterian
Church except for a period of 15 years when he was a member and
elder of Unity Presbyterian Church, Denver, NC. Mr. McGuire was
active in numerous civic, church, business and professional activities
including Governor Dan Moore's Commission for the Public Schools,
The Research Triangle Foundation, Junior Achievement and the Edison
Electric Institute. He
was a founder and former Chairman of the National Electric Reliability
Council. He served as President of the Mecklenburg Bar Association
and President of the N. C. Citizens Association. In 1967 he was
named "Man of the Year" by the Society for the Advancement
of Management, Greenville, SC.

years and most recently was a caretaker at Andys Trout Farm.
She was a member of the Bettys Creek Homemakers Club and was
a member of the Bettys Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded
in death by a brother, Dean Conley, and is survived by a son, Justin
McClain of the home; by her mother June Gregory Conley of Franklin,
NC, a brother Bo Conley of Toccoa, GA, by her former husband Kenny

Dexter McMahan, age 87, of Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, June
4, 2011 in a Webster Nursing Home. He was a native of Jackson County,
the son of the late Kelse Jason and Lorena Matilda Green McMahan.
Carl was a member of Watauga Baptist Church where he served as deacon
and sunday school superintendant. He was a veteran of the U S Air
Force and U S Army during WWII, a small engine mechanic and a truck
driver. He was first married to Annie Lee Estes who died in 1988
and second to Lucille Sanders who died in 2004.
Surviving are
six step-daughters, Frankie Ruff and husband Gary of Sylva, Patsy
Deitz and husband Raymond of Webster, Margaret Long of Brevard,
Nancy Boyett and husband Ben of Collins, GA, Ann Kirby and husband
William of Calhoun GA and Helen Gagnon of Mass.; three step-sons,
Carson Jones of Franklin, Lawny Jones and wife Kathy of Waynesville,
and Clinton Allison and wife Gail of Clarkesville, Arkansas; one
sister, Marcella Wikle of Clinton, TN.; a half-sister, Tammy McMahan
of Clyde, NC; one brother, Robert McMahan and wife Linda of Franklin.
Forty grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren also survive. He
was preceded in death by two stepsons,Herman Allison and James Allison;
two sisters, Ruth Suilt and Opal Louise Sanders; two brothers, James
E. and Clarence McMahan.
Funeral services
will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 6 at Watauga Baptist Church
with Rev. Wesley Price, Rev. Roy Lowe and Rev. Rick Potts officiating.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Deacons and Trustees will
serve as pallbearers. The Franklin VFW post #7339 and the American
Legion post # 108 will do graveside honors.
The family
will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 5 at Bryant
Grant Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the
church 30 minutes prior to services.

- Rhondel
Gene McMillan of Walnut Creek Community, Franklin, North Carolina
passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012. He was born July 20, 1931, in
Clark County, Casey, IL, to Thomas N. McMillan and Hazel Johns McMillan,
both deceased. He is survived by his wife Garnet Angle McMillan,
whom he married on July 15, 1972, in Sanford, FL. and one daughter
Angela McMillan Moore and son-in-law Brian Moore and their children,
grandson Chaz Terry and granddaughter Khloe Moore. He is also survived
by one brother, R. Tommy McMillan and sister-in-law Marilyn L. McMillan
of Hoopeston, IL and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McMillan
passed away in Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville after a brief
illness. He was a former resident of Sanford, FL for 45 years before
moving to North Carolina in 1998. He was employed at Senkarik Paint
and Glass Store in Sanford for over 40 years. While living in Florida
he was an active member of the Sanford Boat and Ski Club.

will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 7:00PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant

Richard Dick McPherson
Orlando
- John Richard Dick McPherson, of Orlando, Florida,
went home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2010.
Dick
was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri on July 2, 1921, the son of Rex
and Mary McPherson. He graduated from the United States Military
Academy (West Point) with wings in 1944; was sent to Smyrna, Tennessee
as a flight instructor in B-24s; then deployed to MacDill
Air Base to learn B-29s. In 1945 he married Dorothy Keene
just prior to receiving orders to go to the South Pacific where
he captained a B-29 Superfortress strategic bomber for two years.
After the war he was stationed as an instructor at Randolph Field
in San Antonio, Texas. In 1950, he left the military and came to
Orlando to join his father-in-law, R. D. Keene, in the family cattle
and citrus business, becoming President of the company in 1972.
In addition, Dick was President of Winter Garden Citrus Products,
Cooperative, a citrus fruit processing facility, for some twenty-five
years. He was instrumental in the sale of the Keene Ranch to the
Morman Church of the property known today as Deseret Ranch. Dick
was committed to serving the community evidenced by his tenure on
the following boards: Past President and member of the Board of
Trustees of Holiday Hospital; past member of the Board of Directors
of Orlando Regional Medical Center; past member of the Board of
Trustees of Rollins College; Past President of the Central Florida
Y.M.C.A.; past member of the Board of the University of Central
Florida Foundation, Inc.; and past member of the Presidents
Round Table at Florida Presbyterian College. In addition, Dick led
the effort in establishing the R.D. Keene Family Professor of Neurosurgery,
the first medical chair in neurosurgery established by a private
endowment at the University of Florida College of Medicine in recognition
and gratitude for the outstanding work of Dr. Albert L. Rhoton.
Dick loved spending summers in the mountains of North Carolina,
playing golf and reading books.
He
is survived by his beloved wife, Dottie (Dorothy K. McPherson),
his daughter, Keene M. Gerber; his son, Rex V. McPherson II, and
his two grandchildren, Rex V. McPherson III and Mary McPherson Botts.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to
Memory Care, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, North Carolina 28803.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held in Orlando.

H. McRae
Franklin,
NC - James H. McRae died December 7, 2010, in Asheville, NC, after
a short illness.
Jim
was born in Marietta, Ga., on March 24, 1924, the son of Ruth Campbell
and Fred McRae. He grew up in Atlanta, Ga.
After
serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Northwest and the Aleutian
Islands during World War II, he returned to Atlanta and played professional
baseball in the minor leagues in towns from West Virginia to Florida
before beginning a career in art. He attended the Atlanta College
of Art and later taught figure drawing there.
Jim
worked as an artist in several disciplines, earning success as a
cartoonist and commercial artist before turning full time to painting.
He was a studio artist for nearly 60 years, working in various media
but focusing on figurative painting, a field in which he earned
distinction. His work is held in the collections of museums and
collectors worldwide.
In
1973, he moved to Franklin and continued to work as an artist. He
also enjoyed sports. A former amateur boxer, he coached the Franklin
Boxing Club for several years. He began a long love affair with
golf when he was 60, winning a number of local tournaments and playing
with the "Dog Fight" at Mill Creek.
Jim
is survived by his wife, Barbara, of almost 38 years, and by his
children Keith McRae and wife Helen Talley-McRae of Decatur, Ga.;
Leigh McRae and husband Morrill Hay of Atlanta, Ga.; Rebekah McRae
and husband Michael Leverette of Woodstock, Ga.; and Samuel James
McRae of Franklin, NC, and Baghdad, Iraq. Six grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In
addition to his parents and three siblings, Jim was predeceased
by his son Scott McRae.
In
accordance with Jims wishes, a small service is planned for
family and close friends. A public celebration of his life will
be held in the spring.

McRae
Ramah,
N.M - Where to Begin? That's how Scott McRae titled his column of
observations that ran in The Franklin Press during his editorship
and for several years thereafter.
McRae,
59, died unexpectedly in Albuquerque on Thursday, June 18, following
a short illness. He was born on July 11, 1949, in Atlanta. He graduated
from North Fulton High School and attended West Georgia College.
McRae began with The Press as a reporter in 1981 under the late
Bob Sloan. He was named editor in 1989, and held that position until
he left in June 1997 to move to Arizona and pursue a career as a
freelance writer. At the time of his death, McRae was living on
a 40-acre ranch in Ramah, N.M., with his wife, the former Denise
Grant, enjoying a successful career as a freelancer and ghostwriter.
In
addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Jo McRae of
Atlanta, his father and stepmother, Jim and Barbara McRae of Franklin,
his brother Keith and wife Helen McRae and his sister Leigh and
husband Morrill Hay of Atlanta; half-sister Rebekah and husband
Mickey Leverette, of Canton, Ga.; and half-brother Sam McRae of
Franklin and Iraq. Several nieces and nephews, stepchildren, stepgrandchildren
and other relatives and friends also survive. McRae
was buried at his ranch in Ramah.
Scotts
memorial service will be at 4:30 on Saturday, August 22, St. Agnes
Episcopal Church. There will be a reception afterwards.

NC - Danny R. McDowell, age 51, of Sugarfork Rd., Franklin, NC passed
away Monday, August 30, 2010 in a local hospital. A native of Macon
Co., he was the son of the late John Wilbur and Ruth Tyler McDowell.
He worked in restaurants as a cook and worked in the paint department
of Nantahala Lumber Company. He loved gardening and fishing.
He
is survived by partner Geoff Allen of Franklin, NC; four sisters
Jerry Reece and husband Jack of Dawson Springs, KY, June Wike and
husband Bill of Morganton, NC, Wanda Waldroop of Franklin, NC and
Cathy Kari of Asheville, NC; two brothers John McDowell and Mary

Navy Veteran with 22 1/2 years of service. He also retired from
the US Post office with 17 years of service.

Cashiers
- R. William (Bill) Metzger Sr., of Cashiers, North
Carolina died on August 13, 2009. Born in Willoughby, Ohio on April
2, 1930, he had a successful business career that included executive
positions with Air Products, Eutectic, Disston Tools and The Triangle
Corporation. With Triangle, he was President of Utica Tool Company
in Orangeburg, South Carolina for 15 years, living in Columbia.
When giving the commencement address at Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech
in 1976, he stated if you deal intelligently through people
if
you work with your fellow man and make the maximum contribution
your abilities will allow, then you are an important part of the
free enterprise system. After a brief retirement to Isle of
Palms, South Carolina, he also served as President and CEO of Envirometrics,
Inc. in Charleston, South Carolina. At the time of his death he
was once again in semi-retirement status assisting his
wife and daughter in their antique business in Cashiers.
He
is survived by his adoring wife of 59 years, Vivianne, and their
five children- Cheryl Tibbetts and husband Bill of Cashiers; Jeffrey
Metzger and wife Barbara of Boulder, Colorado; Michael Metzger and
wife Kathy of Fair Oaks, California; David Metzger and wife Marraya
of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and R. William Metzger Jr. and wife Jeannie
of Columbia, South Carolina Those five children brought Bill much
love and pride, as well as nine grandchildren- Ken and Rob Tibbetts,
Stacy and Matt Metzger, Michael and Patrick Metzger, Kate Metzger,
William and Christopher Metzger- and two great-grandchildren- Marshall
and Henry Tibbetts.
His
wife and his family were his pride and joy and he lived life to
the fullest. He will be sorely missed by all. A private family service
will be held at St. Judes Catholic Church in Cashiers, North
Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society (Cancer Research) or the National Parkinson Foundation,
Inc.

and was a high school teacher and coach in Prescott, Arizona, and
a small business owner. He was an avid reader and gardener, and
was a dog lover. He was a US Navy Veteran and was a member of St.
Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He
is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean Ann Grogan Mezera; two
daughters, Danielle Mezera and Michelle White both of Nashville,
TN; four sons, Lawrence Mezera and his wife ToniAnn of Orlando,
FL, Paul Mezera and his wife Tammy of Nashville, TN, Lad Mezera
and his wife Lynette of Placerville, CA and Ping Fang and his wife
Mandi of Tipp City, Ohio; one sister, Mary Margaret Mezera of Phoenix,
Arizona; seventeen grandchildren also survive.

the Standish Hospital, was a home maker, and a member of the Catholic
Church.

wife of 63 years Betty Frances Coleman Miles. He was a U S Navy
Veteran and was a supervisor for Southern Bell Telephone Co. Marvin
was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and
great-great grandfather. He loved to travel.

of Okeeechobee, FL and Jerri Scott and husband Tommy of Tignall,

and her husband Don of Treasure Island, FL and Deborah M. Coppola
of Tequesta, FL; two sisters, Elizabeth Draper of Ft. Pierce, FL

Allen Miller passed away suddenly in San Jose, Costa Rica on Saturday,
September 17th 2011. "His
candle burned at both ends, it did not last the night, but oh my
friends and oh my foes it gave a lovely light".
Born to Captain
Robert A. Miller and Helen Hedges Miller on February 13th, 1958
at Triplar Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. He attended Lake Park
Elementary School and Gulfview Middle School in Naples, FL. He attended
high school at Choate Preparatory School in Wallingford, CT. He
attended Duke University for one semester before deciding to embark
to California to "find himself". His father, however,
escorted him to the nearest Coast Guard Recruitment office and he
served four very happy years. He said he really did not remember
signing up. But in retrospect he adored the Coast Guard and was
awarded several medals for outstanding service.
While serving
in the Coast Guard he married Karen Wright and had a daughter, Ashley
Beth. He started Miller Construction Company and served as the architect
for many of his homes in the Highlands, NC area. At one point he
had 136 homes in the club that he had constructed. After
a few years in Franklin, NC he married Debbie Provence. They both
became very involved in community affairs, serving on many committees
and boards. Burke
moved to Costa Rica later in life. He made friends everywhere that
he went. Burke
was a wonderful father and son. He was very loyal and a true friend
and he will be sorely missed
He is survived
by his mother, Helen Miller. His sister, Tara Miller Dane; and two
brothers, Robert Nathan Miller and Keith C. Miller.
He is also survived
by his only daughter, Ashley Burnett, her husband Teddy; and three
granddaughters, Lexi, Layla and Mya; and a granddaughter due in
December.
Memorial service
will be held at Franklin Covenant Church (265 Belleview Park Rd.
Franklin, NC) on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 4:00 pm. There will
be a covered dish celebration after the service. In

She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Dewitt
T. and Lula Buchanan Allen. She was married to Larry Milstead who
passed away in 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of Iotla Baptist
Church.
She
is survived by three sons, Horace "H.E." Milstead and
his wife Sam of New Orleans, Charles Milstead and his wife, Cathy
of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Roger Milstead and his wife, Anita of
Knoxville, TN; one sister, Geneva Johnson of Franklin, NC; two brothers,
Claude Allen of Franklin, NC and Cecil Allen of Pontiac, MI. Six
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Edna Ferguson and a brother, John
R. Allen.
Funeral
services will be held Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel
of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Robert
Dryman officiating. Burial will be at Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The

NC - Shirley Ann Longino Minton, 83, of Fort Pierce, FL passed away
April 12, 2011 in Highlands, NC. Mrs. Minton was born in Daytona
Beach, FL moving to Fort Pierce. She was a member of the Pelican
Yacht Club, Chapter AR, P.E.O., Heathcote Botanical Gardens, Poinciana
Garden Club, Highlands Country Club and was past president of the
St. Lucie Cowbelles. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Fort Pierce.
Survivors
include four sons, Oma Richard Minton, Jr. of Fort Pierce, John
Lewis Minton of Vero Beach, FL, Berryman Thomas Minton of Fort Pierce
and Michael David Minton of Fort Pierce; brother, B. T. "Buster"
Longino of Sidell, FL; sister, Jessie Beth Curry of Gainesville,
FL; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mrs.
Minton is preceded in death by her husband, Oma Richard Minton,
Sr. and a sister, Mary Lucille Purvis.
Friends

Home, Fort Pierce. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, April
16th from the First United Methodist Church, Fort Pierce, FL with

away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at a local hospital. She was born
in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of the late Munson Barker and Dorothy
Huffman Hinman. She was a homemaker, an artist, avid birdwatcher
and she enjoyed gardening.
She
is survived by two daughters, Patricia Mitchell of Denver, CO and
Katie Mitchell of Coral Springs, FL; three sons, Steven Mitchell
and his wife, Mary of Lincoln, Mass, Preston Mtchell of San Franciso,

- Charles Leonard Moffitt, age 83, of McCoy Street, Franklin, NC
passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 at John Keever Solace Center
in Asheville, NC. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the
late Lawrence C. and Bertha Ledford Moffitt. He was a painter and
a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church.
He
is survived by three sisters, Hermie Dills, Ida Lee Thomas and Anna
Lee Shope all of Franklin, NC; one brother, Ernest Moffitt of Franklin,
NC. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded
in death by three sisters, Ethel Thomas, Nina Sanders, Nellie Stamey;
two brothers, Roy Moffitt and Ervin Moffitt.
Memorial
services will be held Wednesday, October 15 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel
of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Jamison officiating.
The VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct complete

NC - Ernest
J. Moffitt, 90, of South Skeenah Road, Franklin, NC passed away
on Tuesday, October 06, 2009. He was a native of Macon County, son
of the late Lawrence and Bertha Ledford Moffitt. He was a member
of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he was active as long as
health permitted.
He
served with honor in the US Navy during World War II from 1944 to
1946.
His
working career was with North Carolina Department of Corrections.
He began work in Macon County and transferred to Central Prison
in Raleigh in 1962. He retired in 1980 with 30 years of service
and then returned to Macon County.
He
is survived by sons, Charles Eugene Moffitt of Hayes, Virginia,
Timothy L. Moffitt and wife Donna of Greensboro, NC, daughter Sue
Moffitt Calhoun and friend Novia Talley of Franklin, Judy Moffitt-Hinton
and husband Eugene of Franklin. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren,
several great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Hermie Dills,
Anna Lee Shope and Ida Lee Thomas and several nieces and nephews
who were kind, loving and faithful in visiting and supporting him.
He
was preceded in death by Eunice Stockton, his loving wife of 69
years. They would often be seen around town having lunch, visiting
with friends and enjoying life together. In addition to his wife
and parents, he was also preceded in death by son Grady Moffitt,
grandson, Grady Charles Moffitt, daughter-in-law, Margaret Early
Moffitt; sisters, Nellie Stamey, Nina Sanders, Ethel Thomas and
brothers, Roy, Ervin, and Leonard Moffitt.
Ernest
was known for his sense of humor, devotion to family and friends,
his gift for gardening and for his honesty and strong resolve and
courage in times of trouble. He was truly one-of-a-kind and will
be greatly missed by family and his many friends.
Funeral
services will be held Friday, October 9 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel
of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev.
Don Moffitt officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. The

Eunice Stockton Moffitt, 86, of South Skeenah Road, Franklin, NC
passed away August 26, 2008. She was a native of Macon County, the
daughter of Grady and Irene Stockton born on April 3rd 1922. She
married Ernest Moffitt on March 16th, 1939. They recently celebrated
their 69th wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church where she was active as long as her health permitted.
She and her family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1962, where they made
many friends. They returned to Macon County in 1980.
In
addition to her husband, she is survived by sons; Eugene Moffitt
of Hayes, VA, Tim Moffitt and wife, Donna of Greensboro, NC; daughters:
Sue Moffitt Calhoun, Judy Moffitt-Hinton and husband, Gene, all
of Franklin. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents Grady and Irene Stockton, son
Grady Moffitt, grandson Grady Charles Moffitt, daughter-in-law Margaret
Early Moffitt, son-in-law Bobby Calhoun, brother G.R. Stockton,
sisters:Elizabeth Williamson and Sadie Mason.
She
loved her family, church and friends and especially loved to travel
and go places; whether it be to a local camp ground with her husband,
or on more extended trips. She especially enjoyed the times that
her daughter Sue took her and Ernest to Florida and the gulf coast
states.
The
family will truly miss her always being there for them.

of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Don Moffitt officiating.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Stamford,
CT, the daughter of the late George and Evelyn Heusted Foster. She
was married to the late Harry I. Moger. She was a homemaker, an
excellent seamstress, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She
is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ann Lapp and her husband, William

one brother, Kenneth Foster of Stamford, CT.; three grantdchildren,

NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years Ernest
(Monte) Monteith of Cashiers.
She is survived
by her son, James (Jim) Monteith of Cashiers; daughter, Martha M.
Sides and husband, Jim of Newport News, VA and grandson, James M.
Sides of Arlington, VA.
She was born
in Wilkes County, NC on December 13, 1910. She was valedictorian
of her high school class, receiveing a scholarship to attend Womans
College of the University of NC now UNCG. She graduated in 1934
with a degree in Biology.
She was a gracious
lady who treasured her family, friends and church. She modeled courage,
compassion, dignity, integrity and kindness. Her infectious enthusiasm
for life, her love of animals and the world around her will be fondly
rememebered by all who knew her.
The family would
like to thank the many friends who have been so generous with their
time over the years.

A memorial service
will be held at 12:00 PM on July 24 at the Church of the Good Shepherd

passed away Monday, December 27, 2010. She was a native of Macon
County, the daughter of the late Isaac Henry Peek and Roe Ann Houston
Peek. She was married to Dallas Lawton Monteith, who died in 1992
after 59 years of marriage. She was a homemaker, and a former member
of Hamburg Baptist Church for well over 50 years, where she was
very active. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher,
Training Union Secretary and Treasurer and was in WMU. She was presently
a member of Sugarfork Baptist Church.
She
is survived by two daughters, Grace Aileen and David Mashburn and
Louise and Alex Clinton Ledford of Franklin, NC; two grandsons,
Eddie and Teri Ledford of Franklin, NC and Bruce and Carmen Ledford
of Sandford, NC; two granddaughters, Gail Mashburn and Judy and
Kevin Haney of Swannanoa, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Dallas,Cobey,
Alicia, Claire, Shaley, Savannah, and Cherish, and two great-great-grandchildren,
Jada and Kingston also survive. In addition to her parents and husband
she was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Johnny, Leonard, George,
Jim, Martin and Willie; one sister, Lettie Bishop, and one great-grandson,
Edward Alan Ledford.

She was a lifelong native of Macon County, the daughter of the late
Spurgeon and Mary Moses Saunders. She was married to J. B. Moore
who passed away September 01, 2005. She was a homemaker and a member
of Coweeta Baptist Church. She worked at Burlington Industries for
several years and was a member of the Franklin VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She loved being outdoors, birds, flowers and gardening. She was
a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She
is survived by one daughter, Peggy J. Patterson and her husband,
Morris of Otto, NC; two sons, Bruce Moore and his wife, Mib of Franklin,
NC and Don Moore and his wife, Linda of Franklin, NC; two sisters,
Marie Anderson of Marietta, SC and Gladys Arrowood of Taylor, SC;
one brother, Carol Saunders of Marietta, SC. Nine grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death
by two sisters, Myrtle Arrowood and Wilda Mae Donaldson and two
brothers, Paul Saunders and Elmer Saunders.

"Tex" Harold Moore, Jr., age 78, of Franklin, NC passed
away Friday, November 25, 2011 at a local hospital. He was a lifelong
resident of Macon County, the son of the late George Harold Moore,
Sr and Katherine Conley Moore. He was preceded in death by his wife
of fifty years, Betty Hurst Moore who passed away in 2006. He was
a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked
in maintenance at the Macon County Recreation Park and was a member
of the Community Baptist Church. Tex loved hunting, fishing, racing
and being with his grandchildren.
He is survived
by five daughters, Katherine Anne Moore of Chapel Hill, NC, Mary
Louise Moore, Susan Elizabeth Riley & husband David, Margaret
Lorene Jones and husband Mack, and Frances Virginia Ferguson all
of Hillsborough, NC; one son, William Henry " Bill" Moore

of Inman First Baptist Church.
He
was the dedicated father of Gracie and Adam Moore both of the home.

NC - Robert "Bob" Walsh Moore, Sr, age 84, of Franklin,
NC passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Angel Medical Center.
He was born in Rutherford Co., NC, the son of the late Charles Walsh
and Mae Jordan Moore. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church where he served for
many years on numerous committees and as chairman of the Board of
Trustees. For thirty-five years, Bob was a partner in Conley Motor
Company with his father-in-law, Charles Conley, Sr. and his brother-in-law,
Charles Conley,Jr and James Conley. He was a former member of the
Franklin Rotary Club and he served as Scout Master for the Boy Scouts
of America. He served 10 years on the Board of Trustees for Angel
Medical Center and served on the Fontana Regional Library Board
for 25 years and also on the Macon County Library Board. He was
a founding member of the Folk Heritage Association of Macon County.
He
is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sue Conley Moore; one daughter,
Suzanne Wade and her husband Jeff of Winston Salem, NC; one son,
Bobby Moore and his wife, Laura of Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren,
Taylor Wade, Adam Wade, Walsh Moore and Larisa Moore.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, August 25 at 12:00 PM at the First
United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fowler and Dr. Don Haynes

He was a native of Campbell, Kentucky, the son of the late Edward
Arthur Moore and Rose Etta Lewis Moore. He was married to the late
Cora Madeline Meridith Moore. He was a spray painter for a military
painting company. He was a member of Christian Church in Hodgenville,
Kentucky. He was a member of the USO, loved bingo and loved the
Pizza Peddler Restaurant.
He
is survived by two sisters, JoAnn Rasi and husband Al of Franklin,

- Dewey Morgan, Sr., age 86, of Franklin, NC passed away Monday,
October 22, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late
John M. and Mary Scott Morgan. He was a gas company truck driver;
a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII, and he
was a member of Franklin VFW Post #7339. He loved riding trails
on four wheelers. He was a loving father and grandfather and a member
of Watauga Baptist Church.
Mr. Morgan is
survived by one daughter, Charlene Staley of Lexington, NC; one
son, George Dewey Morgan of Greenville, SC; one sister, Lorene Cope
of Mt. Vernon, WA; one brother, Roger Morgan of Asheville, NC and
four grandchildren.

will be held Friday, October 26 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of Bryant
Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Price and Rev. Gary McCoy officiating.
Burial will be in Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery. Franklin VFW

August 22, 2008 at a local nursing home. She was a native of Macon
County, the daughter of the late Sam W. and Lillie Rogers Stanfield.
She was married to the late Doyle Morgan. She had worked as a secretary
for the Georgia State Patrol and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She
is survived by a step-son, Carl Morgan of Atlanta, GA; a sister,
Phoebe Horne of Americus, GA and several nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by three sisters, Ora Stanfield Raby, Mattie
Stanfield and Belle Crunkleton; three brothers, Oline Stanfield,
T.L. Stanfield and Willie Stanfield.

Nina D. Holbrook and Alva D. Shelton; six brothers, Lon, Carl, Crawford,
Joel, Rogers, and Lyman Dalton. She was a loving mother, excellent
homemaker, and volunteered at Angel Auxillary Thrift Shop. She was
a member of Cowee Baptist Church.
She is survived
by two sons, Robert (Max) Morgan (Kay) of Rock Hill, SC and Lyman
Dale Morgan (Blanche) of Franklin; three grandchildren, James Morgan
(Cynthia), Jayne Watson (Brian) and Jill Bell (Ralph); six great-grandchildren,
Harris and Nate Morgan, Bennett and Morgan Watson, Christopher and
Lauryn Bell, several nieces and nephews.

and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Margaret
loved gardening, quilting and crafts.
She
is survived by her life-partner, Clifford Morgan, her daughter,
Pamela St. Clair and her husband, Edward of St. Petersburg, FL;
her son, Jeffrey Rogers and his wife, Deanna of Dunnellon, FL; two
granddaughters, Cassie Rogers and Cynthia St. Clair; one great-grandson,
James Barkey. Seven sisters, Grace, Louise, Becky, Barbara, Ginnie,
Betty and Joanne; one brother, Herb. She was preceded in death by
two sisters, and one brother.
A

War, and second to Fred Allen Morgan, who passed away in 2002. She
was a nurses aid, and attended Watauga Baptist Church. In
addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by
a daughter, Barbara Ann Brendle, two sisters, Lola Pressley and
Ethel E. Sanders and three brothers, Elwood, Carl and Robert Bailey.
She is survived
by several nieces and nephews.

- Lynn Patricia Morris, 71, of Highlands, North Carolina, died June
23, 2012. She was born March 26, 1941 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
She was the only beloved child of the late Marc Leonard and Vida
Ball Fleishel. Lynn was a Tampa debutant, an extraordinary cook,
and a devoted loving wife and mother.
She is survived
by John B. Morris, her husband of 50 years, three children: Vida
Morris, Marc Morris and Michelle Mathis, son-in-law Troy Mathis,
daughters-in-law Sara Morris and Deborah Smith and four grandchildren:
Marc and Cannon Morris and Austin and Amber Mathis.
Lynn was a beautiful
compassionate person who always had a smile or a kind word to share.
She loved living in the mountains and visiting the beach. She was
extremely proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed keeping track of
all their athletic activities and academic achievements.
At Lynns
request, a private family memorial was held in her honor. Lynn will
truly be missed by both her family and dearest friends.

survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Morrow who died

mail carrier for 12 years and worked at the Forest Service till

He loved riding motorcycles, fishing and family get togethers. He
loved gospel music and was always there for family and friends.
He
is survived by three sisters, Dovie McCall of Clayton, Ga, Alma
Bolick of Franklin, NC and Arvina Hedden of Naples, FL. He was preceded
in death by an infant sister, Denver Moss, sister, Sybil Moss Bradley;
one brother, Garnell Lee Moss. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Hooper of Ohio; two brothers, Lemmie Houston of Georgia and Kelly
Houston of Marietta, GA; one grandchild, one great-grandchild and
a number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in
death by a son, Kenneth Moses, who passed away in 1973.

18, 2008 at Angel Medical Center. He was a native of Cherokee County,
the son of the late Josephin Standberry Mulkey and Stanley Mulkey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers,
Donald, Jack and Wallace "Shug" Mulkey and three sisters,
Mary Nell Moore, Ruth Ford and Sue Pangburn. He was a member of
Erwin, Tenn., First Baptist Church. He served in the Merchant Marines.
He was a man of talent, great talent, a lifelong guitarist and singer,
having a band of his own for many years traveling over the U.S.,
Canada and Alaska and made many records.
He is survived by three children; a son, Stanley Ray Mulkey of Honolulu,
Hawaii; two daughters, Sharida Cox of Archer, FL and Lori Rae of
Honolulu, Hawaii. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
also survive.

devoted, loving wife, mother, daughter and sister who always put
the well being of others before herself. Her smile and laughter
brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
She is survived
by her husband Joe Stephen Munger who she was married to for 11
years, one son Jonathan Spencer Munger of Gainesville, GA, one daughter
Chelsea Mariah Munger of Highlands, NC; two brothers Randy Talley
of Washington, DC and Roger Talley of Walhalla, SC; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist
Church, with Rev. Roy Lowe, Rev. Oliver Rice and Rev. Matt Shuler
officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Luke, Ryan Gearhart, Michael
Vilardo, James Reed, Brett Lamb and Jonathan Cannon. The Georgia
State Troopers and Satolah Fire Department will serve as Honorary
Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Monday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands.
In lieu of flowers,
the family has requested donations be made directly to Bryant-Grant
Funeral Home.

Munger
Highlands, NC
- Robert Warren Munger, age 71, of Highlands, NC, passed away Saturday,
July 14, 2012. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late
Robert Warren Munger, Sr. and Dora Lucille Lowe. He was preceded
in death by a sister, Kathy Munger. He was a self employed plumber
and electrician. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and
friend who liked to hunt and fish. Robert was a US Army Veteran
of the Viet Nam War.
Robert is survived
by one daughter, Bobby Jo Munger of Milledgeville, GA; two sons,
Kelly Warren Munger and wife Brenda of Franklin, NC and Robert DeWalt
Munger and wife Lisa of Young Harris, GA; four sisters, Susie McDaniel
and husband Ivey of Lexington, NC; Joyce Rogers and husband Steve,
Margaret Rish (husband Larry, deceased), and Michelle Rogers and
husband Stacey all of Franklin, NC; and seven brothers, Tony and
wife Debbie of Lexington, NC, Lawrence and wife Carol of Highlands,
NC, Tim Crane and wife Tammy of Franklin, NC, Sherman Munger, Dale
Munger, David Munger and wife Susan, and Christopher Munger all
of Lexington, NC. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren
also survive.
Graveside services
will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at Highlands Memorial
Park with the Rev. Benny Bagwell officiating. Franklin Vietnam Veterans
of America Chapter #994 will conduct military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 11:00 am Wednesday at
Bryant Grant Funeral Home in Highlands.

Robert
H. Munn
Franklin - Robert
H. Munn, 80, of Franklin, NC, formerly of Holiday, Florida, died
Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Mr. Munn grew up in Hollywood, California,
and joined the United States Army, training as a paratrooper. After
his honorable discharge from military service in 1949, he worked
at a Hollywood studio in film production until the late 1960s.
He then was a commercial/residential painting contractor for the
next 30 years, first in California and then in Florida, before retiring
to Franklin, NC in 1998.
He
was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Nanci Mercando, who passed
away December of 2007. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Victor
Pizzolato, and his nephews, Mark Pizzolato, Will Pizzolato, Gene
Pizzolato and his niece, Jane Pizzolato.
A
memorial service will be held Friday, May 29, 2009 at 11:00am in
the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Father Boyd officiating.

Ella Myers
Franklin,
NC - Mae Ella Myers, age 82, of Roland Rickman Road, Franklin, NC,
passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in a local nursing home. She was
a native of Clarke, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Cicero
B. and Sara Ivey Walthall. She was married to the late Johnny M.
Myers, who passed away in 1990. She was a homemaker and a member
of the Church of Christ.
She
is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Hayes of Franklin, NC, one
son Charles Williamson of Ackerman, Mississippi, one sister, Louise
Shear of Pensacola, FL; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A
funeral service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 2:00pm in
the Chapel of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest, Mississippi. Burial
will be in Salem Cemetry in Lake, Mississippi.
