Chester Joseph Olaski

Franklin, NC - Chester Joseph Olaski Jr. 74 of Franklin, NC died Friday April 30, 2010 in an Asheville, NC hospital. He was a native of North Attlebore, Mass. the son of the late Chester Joseph and Irene Lavoie Olaski. He was a production control manager for a pharmaceutical company.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jean M. Scansroli of Franklin, NC one daughter Lori Ann Crisholm of Norton, Mass. One son Michael Olaski, of Franklin, NC, and one sister Elaine Hilton of Cape Codd, Mass. Nine Grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday May 4, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hart officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Angel Home Health and Hospice.

Jessica Joy O'Neal

Franklin, NC - Jessica Joy O'Neal, age 26 of Otto, NC formerly of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born in Bartow County, FL, the daughter of Robert E. and Helen Farthing O'Neal of Otto, NC. She attended Holly Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Clayton and Dale Spivey of Auburndale, FL; a sister, Beverly Fratto of Suwanee, GA; two brothers, Robin O'Neal and his wife, Yvette and John Michael O'Neal of Port Charlotte, FL. A number of nieces and nephews survive. Franklin relatives include, Aunts and Uncles, Jack & Sandra Hedden and Larry & Paula Brooks. Several out of town aunts & uncles.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Trull officiating. Burial will be held at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 24, from 11:00-12:00 noon, one hour prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 5007 Monroe Road, Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28205.

Leslie Douglas Ordway

Franklin, NC - Leslie Douglas Ordway, age 50, of Walnut Creek Road, Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Jackson Co., NC, the son of the late Ethan Allen Ordway and Lorraine Baldwin Ordway. He was a salesman in the manufactured stone business. He was an Episcopalian by faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brandy Lisa Ordway.

He is survived by two sisters, Louise Ordway of Asheville, NC and Charlotte Cabe of Lawrenceville, GA; three brothers, James Ordway of Rome, GA, Ethan Ordway of Brownsville, TX and Duncan Ordway of Lincolnton, GA.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 15th at 2:00pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Eddie Taylor.

Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America or to a Charity of one’s choice.

Virginia Carroll Justice Orndorff

Franklin, NC - On February 1,2010 , Virginia Carroll Justice Orndorff went home to be with her Maker and Savior. She was preceeded in death by her mother Virginia Braswell Justice her father Rass Justice and her husband of 26 years Vaughan Orndorff.

She was a loving mother of two daughters Carolynn Orndorff Gray and Michelle Orndorff  Waters. She was a firm and loving grandmother to 8... Jake Waters, Jessa Waters, Breland, Kerigan, Tanner, Kelsey Watts, Rachel Gray, and Brandon Jiang-Gray. She was a loving sister to Mary Sue Justice Webb, and Aunt to Sabrina Justice Ewing, Kayla Webb, Dylan Justice, and Brandon Ewing. She leaves behind a loving caring, friend that was always there for her when many couldn’t be... Clarence Scott.  Carrol’s home church was Dryman’s Chapel Methodist, but after moving closer to town had been loved and accepted at Watauga Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Price officiating. Burial will be held at Wright Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 3 from 10:00-11:00 AM, one hour prior to service.

Calvin Eugene "Gene" Owenby

Franklin, NC - Calvin Eugene "Gene" Owenby, age 83, of Franklin passed away August 14, 2009 at his residence. Born November 22, 1925 at Nantahala, he was the son of the late General Wheeler and Delphia Cochran Owenby. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Owenby Jones and a brother Newell Owenby. A life long native of Macon County, he served in the Navy during World War II. He was self employed as a timberman, cattle and tobacco farmer, and a mica miner. He was a member of the Cowee Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Owenby and her companion, Jack Hendrickson; a son, Mitchell Owenby and his wife, Gloria all of Franklin, NC; three grandchildren, Stacey Owenby and Jason Simpson of Franklin, NC, Stephanie Reese and her husband, Jason of Marietta, GA; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Lindsay, Jacob, Amber, Sophia and Julian; the mother of his children, Jessie Wilson; four sisters, Inez Bateman of Chattanooga, TN, Wanda Ballew of Peach Tree, NC, Louise and Ruth Day of Nantahala, NC.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 16 at 4:00PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pearly Owenby, Dale Duvall, Sidney May, Mike Arnold, Charles Pickens and Mike Ramsey will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 16 from 2:00-4:00PM, two hours prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

Genessa Gay Owenby

Nantahala, NC - Genessa Gay Owenby, age 84, of the Nantahala Community, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Murphy Medical Center. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Columbus Bunyan and Emma Grant Owenby. She was married to Lawson Owenby who passed away August 24, 2004. She was a homemaker and worked for Owenby Manufacturing Company for 33 Years and was a member of the Bethel Hill Baptist Church where she served as a pianist, and was a choir member. She sang in the Hampton Branch Quartet and The Believer's Quartet.

She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Owenby Douthit and her husband, Cecil of Nantahala; one sister, Carlene Grant of Hayesville, NC; four grandchildren, Cindy Douthit of Greensboro, NC, John Douthit and his wife, Diane of Marble, NC, and Kevin Douthit of Kernsville, NC. Three great-grandchildren, Kristen,Brandon and Alicia also survive. She was preceded in death by her son, Talmadge Leon Owenby , three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Taylor, and Rev. Marlin McMahan officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will recieve friends Monday from 6:00-8:00PM at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Andrews, NC.

Alney H. Owens

Clayton, GA - Alney H. Owens, age 88, of Walking Stick Road, Clayton, GA went to his heavenly reward Wednesday, April 9, 2008. He had been in declining health for about a year and half. He was a native of Macon County, NC, and one of eight children of the late Thomas Riley and Rose Lee Owens. He was married to Ruth C. Owens, who passed away August 9, 1991.

Alney worked as a laborer all his life. He served in the CC Camps during the 1930's and worked from Georgia to California. He worked in construction and yard work until his 60's, then for the Forest Service until he was 85. He said,

"I got so old I couldn't work hard, and I didn't want to steal their money." He attended Blue Valley Baptist Church. Alney was preceded in death by a son, Julius, who passed away April 13, 1987.

He is survived by one daughter, Alma Owens, of the home, and one son, Ellis Owens, and his wife Justine of Arlington, VA; one sister, Ora Sue Watson of Hildebran, NC; four grandchildren, Thomas, Clint, Kelli, and Elizabeth, four great-grandchildren, Nora, Christopher, Dallas and Gage.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12th at 11:00am in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands, with Rev. Oliver Rice and Rev. Walter Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Calvin Chastain, Jason Owens, Ronnie Owens, Brandon Picklesimer, Dennis Ivester, Kevin Nix, and Mack Chastain.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Friday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands.

Euell "Buck" Owens

Franklin, NC - Euell "Buck" Owens, age 86, of Hyatt Road, Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 in a local nursing home. He was a native of Rabun County, GA, and had lived in Macon County most of his life. He was the son of the late Luther and Ella Chastain Owens. He was a builder and farmer, and a US Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday School Director and retired Deacon.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Blanche McCoy Owens; two daughters, Elaine Enloe and her husband David and Sandy Tippett and her husband Dub all of Franklin; one son, Rev. Ronald Owens and his wife Kathy of Franklin, NC; two sisters, Dorothy Keener of Satolah, GA and Madge Munger and her husband Fred of Highlands, NC; three brothers, Cleveland Owens and his wife Brenda of Satolah, GA, Clinton Owens and his wife Connie of Virginia and Jayco Owens and his wife Martha of Satolah, GA; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia "Tootsie" Akins and Beverly Owens.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 23rd, at 2:00pm at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. John Rogers, Rev. Davis Hooper, and Rev. Clinton Owens officiating. Burial will be at Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Enloe, Jeff Enloe, Tim Houston, Josh Owens, Cleveland Owens, and Dale Seay.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the Church thirty minutes prior to the service.

Sybil Ravanel Owens

Franklin, NC - Sybil Ravanel Owens, age 89, of Longwood, FL, formerly of Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 in Winter Park, FL. She was a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Morrison. She was married to the late Harold Lee Owens, who passed away in 1997.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and was a Christian. She enjoyed working her booth at the Highlands Road Flea Market, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Sanford and her husband Roger of Longwood, FL; three grandchildren, Lisa Sanford and Daniel Sanford both of Longwood, FL and Dwayne Sanford and his wife Onnie of Thompson, GA.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Patrick Owens, and a brother, Bud Morrison.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Myrtle Greene Oxford

Highlands, NC - Myrtle Greene Oxford, age 93, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Fidelia-Eckerd. She was born December 1, 1914 in Randolph County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Sam O. Greene and Addie G. Greene. The family moved to Terrell County where she was educated and lived for 50 years. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wellborn Greene, James Greene, John Greene; three sisters, Rochelle Greene Arnold, Frances Greene Bradley and Ila Greene Taft and by her husband of 64 years, Curtis Dixon Oxford. She was a homemaker and later the Manager of Oxford Distributing Co.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Dawson Ladies Golf Association, the DAR and gave generously of her time and talents to many local projects. The Oxford's moved to Albany, Georgia in late 1960. There she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Doublegate Ladies Golf Associating and served on the Foundation Board of Phoebe Putney Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs Oxford were summer residents of Highlands, NC for 50 years. They were members of Highlands Country Club and Wildcat Cliffs Country Club. Mrs. Oxford was a member of First Baptist Church and Highlands Country Club Ladies Golf Association for many years. They became permanent residents of Highlands in 1998 residing at Chestnut Hill, where she lived until shortly before her death.

Mrs. Oxford is survived by daughters, Kay Oxford Singletary, Carole Oxford and Eve Oxford Groton; grandchildren Harbin Dixon Lawson, Ivy Ullery Stubbs, Eve Ullery Jones and Anna Skiles Muir; and great grandchildren Kevin and Caroline Stubbs, Jacob and Benjamin Dugger, William Price and Mary Skiles Muir.

A private memorial service for immediate family is planned for Saturday, May 10th in Highlands, NC.

Memorials may be made to the Terrell County Library in Dawson, Ga,;Highlands Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, NC or the charity of your choice.
