Betty Compton Queen

Franklin, NC - Betty Compton Queen, 73 of Georgia Rd., Franklin, NC passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 in an Asheville hospital. A native of Macon County she was the daughter of the late Clay and Mae Wood Compton. She was married to R. D. Queen for 54 years. She was a homemaker, worked at Cagle’s Restaurant and was owner of Classic Beauty Supply and Salon. She was an avid NASCAR and dirt track race fan and a loving Mother and Grandmother. In addition to her husband she is survived by one brother David Joe Evans of Cummings, GA and one grandson Jason Brown of the home. She was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Lynn Brown and two brothers Richard Compton and Carl Evans.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Don Moffitt officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bill Compton, Jeff Wallace, Steve Anderson, Tim Scruggs, Bo Garrison, Tommy McCoy and Mark Bell.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Robert Garland Quilliams

Robbinsville, NC - Robert Garland Quilliams, age 87, of Robbinsville, NC died Thursday, December 11, 2008 in a local hospital. He was a native of Jackson County, the son of the late Arthur Garland and Lillie King Quilliams. He was married to the late Hazel Williamson Quilliams who passed away in July 2007. He was a janitor for Fontana Power House TVA . He was a member of Brooks Cove Baptist Church in Fontana where he served as a Deacon and Song Leader.

He is survived by a sister, Margie Parker and her husband, Andrew of Franklin, NC and one brother, Rev. J.C. Quilliams of Clayton, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Hattie Mae Moss, Ellen McClure, Bethel Mick, and Bertha Lee Dills and one brother, Edgar Quilliams.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Cochran, Rev. Robert Dryman and Rev. Harold Beasley officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.

  John Joseph Quinn Jr.

Hartwell - John Joseph Quinn Jr.John Joseph Quinn Jr., 67, of 65 Clay St, Hartwell, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at his home.

Born on April 28, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Joseph Quinn Sr. and Veronica Brown Quinn. He was a retired owner-operator of County Wide Appliances, Franklin, N.C.; former deacon in the Presbyterian Church, a helper in the Children’s Ministries and active in Home Bible Study Groups. He was a former baseball coach and team sponsor. Known for his humor and table games abilities, he loved to camp and boat with his children, grandchildren and friends and was blessed with a good life, his quiver full. He was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Hartwell.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Coss Quinn of the home, three daughters, Sharri Hobbs and husband Gary of Hartwell, Sallee LaForge and husband Eric of Coral Springs, Fla. and Cheryl Pulliam and husband Eddie of Franklin; a brother, Brien Quinn of Florida; three sisters, Pam Maycumber of Hollywood Fla., Sue Flint of Ft Lauderdale, Fla. and Debbie Garner of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren: Amber Pennington, April Acord, Autumn Acord, Aaron Acord, Jacques LaForge, Nikki LaForge, Luc LaForge, Sara Pulliam, Matthew Crawford, Ashley Crawford and Ryan Crawford also survive.

Memorial services was Tuesday, March 30, at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. James Sexton officiating. A reception followed the memorial service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial was held in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Vera Wilson Quin

Highlands, NC - Vera Wilson Quin 93, of Highlands, NC passed away on October 20, 2010 in the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. She was born in Monticello, Georgia, the daughter of Winburn Jewell “Yank” and Georgia Ann Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband Lt. Col. Hillrie M Quin Sr. and her five brothers. She was an active lifelong member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and an active volunteer in several military related charities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; best remembered for her outstanding Southern cooking and sense of humor.

She is survived by her son, Hillrie M Quin Jr. and his wife Beverly of Highlands, and daughter, Ann Quin Sutherland and her husband Col. Jim Sutherland of Winfield, Il. She also is survived by four grand children, Amanda Quin, Hillrie Marshall Quin VIII (Estella), Jennifer Sonntag (Griffin) and Jim Sutherland III (Libby) and four great-grand children, Sophie and Wil Sutherland and Gavin and Lila Grace Sonntag.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands on Monday October 25 at 11:00 AM. A graveside service for the family will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
