Gilbert Beck

Charles "Gilbert" Beck, 76 of Highlands, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.  He was born in Macon County, the son of the late James William and Beulah Henry Beck.  He was retired from the Town of Highlands where he worked as a lineman. After retirement he worked 10 years for Bryson’s Food Store. He also retired as a member of Highlands Fire Department.  He was a member of Highlands Lions Club and drove a school bus.   Mr. Beck was a US Army Veteran and a very faithful member and Deacon of Blue Valley Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susie Beck, daughters, Nowana Barnes (Keith), Joan Hobbs, and Gilberta Shaheen (Jon) all of Highlands, NC; grandchildren, Charissa Herron, Megan Passmore, Christopher Tallent, Susan Barnes, Michael Beck, Dillan Medlin, Savannah Shaheen and John Hayes Shaheen; five great‑grandchildren; four brothers, Sammie Beck, Jake Beck, John Beck and Butch Beck and also his church family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Beck.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Blue Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Oliver Rice and Rev. Allen Aiken officiating. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Barnes, Robert Alford, Scott Beck, James Beck, Aaron Bowman, Travis Ramey, Mike Bryson, Lamar Beck and Brandon Herron. The Highlands Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Military honors will be performed by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm Saturday prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery.
