John Henry Peel, 70, went to be with the Lord and reunited with his wife Valerie Peel, of 49 years, on April 6, 2018. Mr. Peel was born in Los Angeles California and was the son of the late John Henry and Charlien Hendricks Peel. He served his country with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He spent a career in data processing as well as teaching computer classes at a Christian school. Throughout his life he and his wife gave of themselves by opening their home as foster parents. In addition, John loved horses as well as camping, fishing, and sports.
He is survived by a daughter, Temre Gillig of Franklin, NC; a son, John Henry Peel III of Pittsboro, NC; four grandchildren, Ryan Gillig of Franklin, Tristan Gillig, of Great Lakes, MI, Cassandra Gillig of Pembroke, VA, and Zachariah Gillig of Franklin; three sisters, Ann Peel, Brenda Peel, and Marilynn Gholston Shaw; four brothers, James Peel, Joseph Ripley Jr., David Powers, and Tony Powers; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Linda Peel, Yvonne Peel, Marlene Gholston and a brother Wallace Gholston.
A memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 12, at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Hayes officiating. Military Honors will follow the Memorial Service by VFW post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice unit at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville NC. The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 pm‑6:00 pm.
