Ralph William NicholsOctober 10, 1927 ~ November 27, 2017 (age 90)
Ralph Marvin William Nichols, 90, a well respected, long time member of the Cashiers community passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, NC, after a brief illness.
Mr. Nichols came to Cashiers in 1980 upon purchasing the Cashiers Exxon. He played an iconic role in the development and overall prosperity of the community by helping to bring the first traffic light to the crossroads as well as lobbying county commissioners for the procurement of the current TWSA sewer system. Mr. Nichols donated the land to the federal government on which our local post office was built. However, his most beloved endeavors included mentoring and assisting people in our community without fanfare or recognition.
Mr. Nichols is survived by three sons, Ralph Marvin William (Bill) Nichols, Jr. of CashIers, NC; Robert Reed Nichols (Mimi) of Las Delicias, Costa Rica; and James Gill Nichols (Piya) of Cashiers, NC.
