Raymond Hanshell

February 12, 1951 ~ June 21, 2016 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Raymond "Ray" Hanshell

On the evening of June 21st, 2016, Ray passed away peacefully in his home, while surrounded by family. Ray was 65 years old. He had been a Macon County resident for 11 years. He was born February 12th 1951 in Williamsburg, OH.

Ray, an avid outdoorsman, moved his family to Franklin, NC to pursue the dream of living in the beautiful Smoky Mountains. Always accompanied by his family and closest of friends, he spent much of his free time hunting and fishing throughout the mountains.

Ray was a man who planned all of his events to include his wife and family. Whether it was sitting around hollering at the TV during a football game in the living room or taking a multi‑state road trip, Ray was always accompanied by his wife.

A man with a genuine love to make those around him smile, Ray was always very lighthearted. It was a top priority for Ray to make those around him laugh and stay upbeat. For those around him no matter how hard a situation may have been, if there was light to be had, Ray would make you smile.

Another one of Ray's biggest joys were his pack of chihuahuas that were always glued to his side. They would follow him from room to room and always be with him.  As puppies if they got sick, Ray would nurse them back to health and provide constant care. Ray's animals were an extension of his family and held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lula Hanshell, his son, Raymond William Hanshell and his sister Bessie Jackson.

Ray is survived by his wife, Linda Hanshell, his daughter Catherine Rhoden and her husband Gregory, his daughter Christina Dioses and her husband Fabio, his grandchildren Chala, Allen, Aaliyah, Fabio and Jaylinn. He is also survived by his two daughters in West Virgina and his great granddaughter Tuli Justice.

Per Ray's wishes no services are planned. He will be cremated, and a private inurnment will be held for his family.

Please send all memorials and flowers to the family at 520 Cedar Hills Dr., Franklin, NC, 28734.
