Vellamae Hicks Potts, 95, of Highlands passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2018. Born in Rabun County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Samantha Ridley Hicks. She was married to John S. Potts who preceded her in death in 1999.
Mrs. Potts was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and showed hospitality to friends and neighbors by warmly welcoming them into her home to share a home cooked meal. She was immediately loved by all who met and knew her. She enjoyed spending her free hours gardening and growing beautiful flowers.
Mrs. Potts was actively involved in First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, making calls to people who were sick and visiting those who were shut‑in.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Kremser (Buddy) of Satolah, GA sons, Terry Potts (Karin) and Robby Potts all of Highlands; grandchildren, Kirtis Kremser, Laura Zoellner (Lee), Timothy Ryan Potts (Meegan), Christopher Michael Potts (Kelly), Lauren Brittany Potts Casper (David), John Robert Potts and Arthur Potts; great‑grandchildren, Ezra Zoellner, Sage Potts, Brionna Potts, Alexis Potts, Jameson Potts, Greyson Potts, Declan Potts, Ivy Fielding, Jade Fielding, Abigail "Abbi" Casper and Landon Casper and a sister, Alvena "Dinky" Bowers of Clayton, GA.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank Stephen Potts; four sisters, Levada Welborn, Elvira Owens, Volena Hughes and Velzie Rogers and two brothers, Leonard Hicks and Lemond Hicks.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church Highlands. Burial will follow at Highlands Memorial Park.
