Anne Patrick (Major) Doggett

Anne Patrick Major Doggett, 87, of Highlands passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Smith and Lucia Edwards Sullivan Major. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Lewis Doggett, having met in Highlands as teenagers.

Anne attended Stephens College and was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. Her passions were writing, gardening and genealogy and she served on the board of the Highlands Biological Station; was a founding member of Highlands Writers Group and was an emeritus member of Laurel Garden Club of Highlands. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Elliott Doggett Williams (Robert "R.L.") of Lookout Mtn., TN, Alynder Patrick Doggett of Greenville, SC, Frances Major Doggett Mulkin (Joel White) of Birmingham, AL; three sons, Dr. Lewis Carpenter Doggett III (Cathy Allen) of Jacksonville, AL, Benjamin Tanner Doggett (Lisa Bailey) of Suwanee, GA and John Patrick Doggett (Elizabeth Hamilton) of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Charles Smith Major Jr. (Margaret Moon) and Joseph Edmund Major (Sally Herndon) and 11 grandchildren, Tyler Jane Mulkin, Joel White Mulkin, Jr. (Olivia Munoz), James Elliott Mulkin, Lindsay Anne Doggett, Lewis Carpenter Doggett, IV, Allender Sullivan Duhe Doggett, Ethan McGregor Doggett, Riley Sullivan Doggett, Cooper Reeves Doggett, John Cabell Doggett and Emma Sullivan Doggett. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucia Sullivan Doggett.

A graveside service will be held Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Highlands Memorial Park with Rev. Harry Lawrence and Rev. Rusty Goldsmith officiating. A reception will follow the service at Cabin Ben, 115 Cullasaja Drive, Highlands, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Highlands Historical Society; The Land Stewards of the Highlands Biological Station or the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, NC.
