Cynthia "Cindi" Powell Obituary

Cynthia “Cindi” Elizabeth Powell, 70, of Franklin, NC passed away on June 17, 2019 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Her loving husband, Larry was by her side when she left this world. Cindi is survived by her husband, Larry Powell, daughters Jessika Mallardi & Shannon Dansby both of St. Petersburg, FL, Vinnet Cline (Sean Murphy) of Odessa, FL, and Stefanie Kelley (Tony) of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bailey Dansby, Morgan Dansby, Colin Dansby, Riley Dansby, and Michael Mallardi, all of St. Petersburg, FL, and her sisters, Phyllis Hollowell (Harold “Holly”) of Seminole, FL, Maryellen Grable (Bill) of Chaparral, NM, Linda Ledbetter of Round Rock, TX, and Karen “Chici” Blanton (Larry) of Nokomis, FL.

Cindi is predeceased by her parents Paul & Thelma Worthington, and her sister Pauline Attebury.

Cindi was born Cynthia Elizabeth Worthington on April 2, 1949 in Carlisle, PA. Her father was in the United States Army and they moved to Germany shortly after Cindi’s birth. As an “Army brat” Cindi moved around frequently until her father retired and the family settled in Texas.

Cindi graduated from Andress High School in El Paso, TX and lived in Texas until she moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she lived for many years. Cindi later retired to Franklin, NC with her husband Larry after falling in love with the area while on vacation.

There she pursued her love of sewing and quilting and spent many years entering craft shows where she was known as “the Quillow Lady”. She also loved hiking, camping and exploring the area with Larry and she was an awesome tour guide to the many friends and family that visited.

When Cindi wasn’t sewing or spending time outdoors, she was volunteering. She volunteered at multiple thrift stores in the area, most recently at Reach for Bargains. Her organizational skills were so appreciated that she ended up working there part-time until her declining health prevented her from working any longer.

Her love of gardening led her to pursue becoming a Master Gardener in 2012. She enjoyed spending time and organizing fundraiser events at the Master Gardener Association in Franklin and served as their president from June 2015 until her passing.

Cindi was a huge animal lover and volunteered for many years with Macon County Friends of Animals. She had many rescued dogs over the years and loved their companionship. She and Larry acquired their most recent rescue “Chet” approximately 6 years ago. He was a loving companion with silly antics, and a constant comfort to her during her illness. Cindi also enjoyed visiting and supporting her friends and local fawn rehabilitators Cindy and Mark Meier.

She loved spending time with her family, whether it was hosting dinners and game nights at her house, doing arts & crafts with her grandchildren, or watching Netflix with Larry. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and she will be greatly missed.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 1:00 pm on Aug 4, 2019 at the Environmental Resource Center in Franklin, NC. The ERC is located adjacent to the Macon County Landfill at 1448 Lakeside Drive, Franklin, NC 28734.
