Gladys (Neely) Nix

Gladys Neely Chastain Nix, faithful servant, went home to be with her Lord on May 19, 2017. Gladys was born on March 27, 1927, in Macon County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Preston Neely and Hester Hicks Barnes Neely. Gladys was first married to the late James Earl (Buck) Chastain who passed away in 1971 and then to the late Dewey Nix who passed away in 2001.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by two sisters, Alma Barnes Henry, Etta Caroline Neely; a brother, Haskell Barnes, and a step‑son, Bruce Nix.

Gladys was a loving step‑mother to Lucille Wilson and Christine (Bill) Lowe. She was grandmother to several step‑grand and great‑grandchildren. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a friend to so many and loved by all.

Mrs. Neely was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. She loved her church and she continued to be an encourager and supporter even when she was no longer able to attend.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 24, from 12 noon until 1:00 pm at the Clear Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be immediately following at 1:00 pm with Rev. Everett Wilson, Rev. Mike Wilson, and Rev. Zane Talley officiating. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Henry, Eddie Henry, Harold Neely, Kevin Nix, Curt Lane, Bill Lowe and Lester Norris.

Honorary escorts will be Jerri Crowe, Wilma Gordon, Clara Nix, Betty Henry, Michelle Lane and Judy Messner.
