Harry Jackson Duvall went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 30, 2019 at the age of 96. He was born in Macon County to William Caro and Rosa McHan Duvall on September 18, 1922. He was preceded in death in 2018 by his devoted wife, Anna Jean Duvall. He is survived by his son, Raymond and his wife Charlotte of Greenville, SC along with their daughter Rachel, son Nathan and daughter-in-law Carrie and 2 great-grandsons, Landon and Gavin; and by his son, Roger and daughter-in-law Malinda of Taylors, SC, along with their three daughters: Anna Stouffer and son-in-law Nathan, Catherine, and Jenny.
Harry was a decorated WWII Combat Veteran, who served as a Scout in the 29th Infantry Division and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, and one bronze arrowhead. In 2012, Harry was awarded the Legion of Honor, French Order of Knight by the French Government for his role in the liberation of France during WWII. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station. He and Anna Jean were instrumental in the establishing of Diamond Springs Baptist Church in VA Beach, VA and were most recently members of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA prior to moving to Taylors, SC to be nearer to their family.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Tellico Baptist Church, military graveside rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
