Dot I felt bad when I learned of John's passing. I like to think Ethel Mae was there to greet him and introduce him to my Elmer. What a wonderful life you had together and how wonderful you both have shared your talents with so many and the good
deeds you have done all your many years together. He has earned his crown now.
I wish I was there to give you a big hug. You and your family are in my prayers.
Much love and hugs all around. Ida Schmadeke from Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Martha and I were very sorry to hear about Mr. Crawford's death. Growing up on Womack Street and attending school with Tommy, I had many opportunities to see what a fine man and father Mr. Crawford was. I always had the greatest respect for him and know that there will be a huge void in your family and the community without him.
We are sorry that due to previous commitments we will be unable to attend the service, but all of you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Doug

Dear Dot, What an amazing life John and you had together, almost all in the line of service to others. He always had some life tips for me:like pulling the hairs on the back of your neck to stay awake when you were tired; the countless sweet mints he shared - John was sweeter than any; and his unending devotion to you - he was always by your side. The world today needs more people like John and you. On Sunday I have to usher at my church. I thought of coming but I know John would have said, "Duty first."
Both Dick and I send our love, admiration and sympathy

Mrs. Dot - Mr. John was such an inspiration to me for more than a decade. I could always count on kind words, a gentle hug and on many occasions, they were accompanied by candy. Mr. John shared so many traits and characteristics with some of us over the years They shall always be a guide for me on my path of life.

Please know that I hold you dear and will keep you and the rest of your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dot and family
Although I didn't see you often whenever I did John was always there too. I think I first met you about 20 years ago when I came to work at Land of Sky Regional Council. I recall you both attending our first Family Caregiver Conference in Asheville. Neither of you ever seemed to change throughout the years. I so looked forward to seeing him at meetings and events. He was so kind, caring and generous. My thoughts and prayers are with and yours. May your memories help sustain you and give you peace.

My heartfelt sympathies to Dorothy and families. I will remember always my many conversations with John. I always told him that he was the only person I knew who could
still wear his A.F. uniform that was issued to him in the '40's. God Speed John for a true
patriot. Howard Patton

We met John and Dot when we began representing Mitchell County with the North Carolina Senior Tar Heel Legislature five years ago. We connected immediately because they made us feel such a part of an organization that was important to the aging population of our state. We lived in Victoria , Texas and our son was born in Victoria. Charles served with the United States Army and I am a Registered Nurse. We so enjoyed connecting at each meeting. He will be missed. Our sincere condolences to Dot and her family. We love you and you will be in our prayers.

Dot and family
Although I have only known John for a short 8 years he touched my life and my heart in so many ways. We will surely miss his sense of humor and smile. He was love of country and dedication to the elder population will always serve as an inspiration to all those who knew him. He is resting in God's hands.

John will truly be missed. Every time he came into the old Ingles, he'd ask for a hug; tell me about being born at home in a cabin in the woods; give candy, and last but not least, say, if you love me, tell me so. John, I look forward to telling you so when I get to heaven. Mrs. Crawford, peace and love to you and your family.

It has been my pleasure to become acquainted with John and Dorothy through our mutual involvement in STHL. Always so kind and helpful to everyone - never to busy to spend time sharing information or just talking. True example of a loving husband to his wife Dorothy as he made sure she was involved in a place of service that was obvious she loves.
Dorothy, my prayer is that God will give you peace during this time and allow you to reflect with joy and gratitude for the 74 years that you have been privileged to share.
My love to you and your family,
Delores Stroup

Remembering as a child waiting on John to deliver the mail at our house to get my bubble gum! Then I became part of the Social Service family and renewed our friendship and always received candy or gum when John dropped by the office. Dorothy, you know how much you mean to me and please know I am thinking of you and pray for comfort. Please take care of yourself.

Dorothy, words can not express how I feel right now. I am so very sad to hear that your beloved John has passed away and yet at the same time I am rejoicing that he has joined our wonderful Savior. Death was never in God's original plan but sin crept into The Garden and changed everything for all human kind.
I so, so, so loved John. He was such a fascinating man, with a sweet, gentle disposition. I will miss him dearly!!
I have so many wonderful memories of him from the few short years I have known both of you. And I am looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven when my time comes.
I am here for you and your family now and in the weeks and months to come. Please don't hesitate to reach out and ask for help, a shoulder to cry on, or just some company!
I love you so much Dot!!

So sorry for the loss of this great person, but he is in a much better place than us. Prayers for all of you. He sure took care of all us Route 5 people. Was a person I respected greatly in my childhood and all my life. Was always there for us and helped anyway he could. Gave me candy on the mail route, came to the nursing home when Dad passed and brought me candy again. Also even at Dad's funeral gave me candy, with that sweet smile. He left a legacy of kindness!
