How strange it is to see pictures of the father that I never knew, with a family that did not include any the 3 children from his 1st marriage. Many of his friends may be surprised to know that after fathering an illegitimate daughter in France (during his 1st marriage) he walked out on his wife and 3 young children. Apparently he became a "good Christian man" at some point in his life, but one has to wonder what kind of man walks away from his children without a single look behind. Not a phone call, birthday card or Merry Christmas wish. John also had 5 grandchildren that are absent from this obituary. While I should be sad that the man that I should have known as Dad is but a stranger who I never had the opportunity to know...

To the man that I didnt know , to the Father I never knew, to the man and father that my brother Wayne Gallant knew (for a short time) to the father that my sister Valerie (Gallant) Cloutier never knew, to the grandfather that my sons Michael Gallant and Kevin Gallant will never know and to the grandfather that Lucien Duval, Shea Cloutier and Matthew Cloutier (Valerie's children) never knew, we all wish you eternal salvation.
Rest in peace, John Gilbert Gallant,

Grant us peace
Eric J Gallant (your oldest son).

What a Fine Friend John has been ! John seemed to always be real, and honest. With his easy going manner, he would catch me off guard with questions about what I was doing, or planned to do.I certainly enjoyed hearing him dispense with ideas or comments from people that made no sense, or unsafe.John had his feet firmly planted in the ground, and almost always with a ready laugh, a smile, and everyone knew John was a sincere man. I will always lack his woodworking skills and keen eye for measurement, but, I will value his birdhouse and trivet that he made for me. I will certainly miss visiting Jan and John in their splendid home in Franklin, and meeting their friends. Just how quick and friendly John was can be mentioned in remembering his response to my question of asking if the State of Florida was looking to hire people. His immediate response was " Do you want to work for the State ? I'll have an application for you Tomorrow. I think there's an opening, You need to fill it out right away and I'll send it up to the Office." And, He did. And, he recomended me. I was hired three weeks later. We always laughed when I would call him up and ask him, " good morning John - where are you working today ? " Though he has put down his tools at the moment, The good Lord is going to find many uses for John and his leadership and relational talents in his unseen heavenly Kingdom. Until we meet again, John, thanks for your many helps.
