Madaline (Johnson) Huie

March 23, 1931 ~ April 4, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Madaline Johnson Huie died peacefully at her home in Highlands, NC on April 4, 2017 from complications associated with Multiple Sclerosis. A native of Atlanta, she was the daughter of Madaline and Tomlinson Fort Johnson, Jr.  Educated at E. Rivers School, Washington Seminary and Queens College, she graduated from the University of Georgia. She was a member of ADPi and PEO.

In Atlanta she served as President of the Board of Hillside Cottages and as President of the Junior Committee of the Atlanta Symphony. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and the Rabun Gap Nacoochee Guild.

In Highlands, her home for over 20 years, she served as Chair of the Board of the Literacy Council and a member of the Board of the Highlands Community Child Development Center. An avid reader she enjoyed the fellowship of the Knockette Literary Society members. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands.

Madaline is survived by her husband of 64 years, W. Stell Huie, daughter Helen Huie Ashenfelter and husband, John Ashenfelter, of Chatham NJ, daughter Sarah Huie Coleman and husband, Joe Coleman, of Madison, GA, brother Tomlinson Fort Johnson III and wife, Sue Johnson, of Atlanta, her grandsons William Andrew Ashefelter and wife, Margaret Ashenfelter, of Hartford, CT and David Huie Ashenfelter of Chatham, NJ.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Highlands at 11:00 AM on April 17.
