Max Wishon Obituary

JAMESTOWN-Max Terrell Wishon, 79, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

He was born on October 11, 1939 in Macon County, NC to the late Verles Clinton and Beulah Owenby Wishon. A resident of this area most of his life, he was a veteran of the US Army and a retired Upholsterer. He was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, played the bass guitar and sang in the choir, as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed woodworking; especially making things for his grandchildren, growing sweet potatoes; and was known for growing the largest sweet potato in the area. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed dearly. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were 3 brothers, Wayne Owenby, Dean Owenby and Skip Wishon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years; Dora Lee Morgan Wishon; his children, Michael Wishon and his wife, Veronica, Michelle Holt and her husband, Steve; his brother, Gary Wishon; his sisters, Carolyn Hodge and her husband, Phillip, Cathy Passmore and her husband, Kenneth. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Matthew Wishon and his wife, Ashelie, Travis Wishon and his wife, Katherine, Christopher Browning, Samantha Christian and her husband, Jared, and Shauna Browning; his great grandchildren, Lillian Wishon, Elijah Christian and Nova Wishon. 

A service to celebrate Max’s life will be held on Wednesday morning, October 2,, 2019, at 11 o’clock, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Larry Spaulding officiating. His family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, from 9:45 until 10:45, at the funeral home. A second celebration of life service will be held on Thursday morning, October 3, at 11 o’clock, at Bethel Hill Baptist Church in Topton, NC, with Pastor Darrell Dockery officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the US Army Honor Guard. His family will receive friends on Thursday morning, from 9:45 until 10:45, at the church.
