Myrtle Brooks Obituary

Mrs. Myrtle Victoria Nations Brooks, 93, of Franklin passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018. Born in Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Ben "Pop" and Martha "Mom" Phillips Nations. She was married for 61 years to the late Rev. James Paul Brooks who preceded her in death on July 5, 2006.

Mrs. Brooks was a good pastor's wife and homemaker who loved her family deeply. She was a very prayerful woman, "if she was praying for you, you felt safe". She loved her flower garden, sewing, quilting and crochet work. Hospitality was one of her traits and you could always be sure of being offered a good home cooked meal. She was a member of Franklin Church of God where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include a daughter Peggy Earlene Nations (John) of Franklin; sons, Cecil Brooks (Wilda) of Franklin and Winfred Brooks (May) of Bryson City; a daughter‑in‑law, Edith Brooks; a sister, Barbara Ledford of Easley, SC; brothers, Earl Nations of Clyde and Lon Nations of Montana; nine grandchildren and twenty three great‑grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Denver Edward Brooks; three sisters, Virgie Loftis, Frankie Speed and Lexie Edge and two brothers, Millard Nations and Arvil Nations.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Franklin Church of God with Rev. Michael Stephens, Rev. Phillip Cochran and Rev. John Nations officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Nichols, Bobby Brooks, Jeremy Brooks, Kevin Watson, Brian Crupi, Jamie Brooks, Tony Allen, Michael Hilliard and Michael Burnette. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 ‑ 4:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
