Franklin, N.C. – Albert Lyle Ramsey, Jr., 91 of Iotla Church Road, Franklin, NC died Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Elizabeth House, Hendersonville, NC.

Born June 5, 1923 in Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late Albert Lyle, Sr. and Margaret Higdon Ramsey. He graduated from Franklin High School, North Carolina State College (now NCSU) class of l943 and the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in l946. Albert served in the U. S. Army until his retirement in l950. He served as Assistant Agricultural Extension Agent in Yancey and Haywood Counties and as Agricultural Extension Farm Agent in Graham County. In l957, Albert returned to the family farm in Iotla Valley, where he and his family operated a dairy farm and commercial tomato farm. He was one of the founders of the Commercial Vegetable Cooperative in Macon County. Albert also served on the Macon County Planning Board and on the District Soil and Water Conservation Committee and was an active member of the Iotla Community Development Organization. He will always be remembered for his great love for the land! Albert was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Franklin, where he served on the administrative Board and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years: Margaret Setser Ramsey; four children, Rebecca Ramsey Estes (Tom) of Charlotte, NC; Diane Ramsey Forsyth (Mark) of Rye, NH; Joseph Ramsey (Theresa) of Franklin, NC and Ralph Ramsey of Salt Lake City, UT and a brother, Clayton Higdon Ramsey of Franklin, NC Also surviving are six grandchildren; Kaila Ramsey (Matthew) & Matthew Ramsey (Brittany); Emily Forsyth (Chris) & Wesley Forsyth and Anastasia & Andrei Ramsey and one great-granddaughter, Lilly Ramsey.

A Celebration of life service, for Albert and his daughter Diane, will be held Saturday, September 13 at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Harrison Avenue, Franklin, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
