Andrew Moses, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away at Chestnut Hills in Highlands on October 12, 2026. Andrew was born on October 6, 1933, in a tiny cabin off Sugarfork Road to Peter and Martha Taylor Moses. In 1935, his family purchased the Moses Homestead on Ellijay Road, where he grew up and learned the values of hard work, family, and helping his neighbors.
Andrew attended Franklin High School, where he played basketball. He served his country in the United States Army, including a period of service in Germany. From his teenage years into adulthood, he logged the surrounding mountains. Andrew and his wife, Joann, also worked the family dairy farm on Ellijay before he accepted a position at the Ford Motor Plant in Hapeville, Georgia. Andrew was a simple man who loved cutting wood and helping others. His life was deeply rooted in the mountains where he was born, and he will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, generous nature, and willingness to lend a hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Martha Taylor Moses; his sister, Phylis Fisher; his wife, Joann Estes Moses; his daughter, Joi Moses; and his son, Byard Moses.
He leaves behind his sons, Tony Moses (Carrie) and Tim Moses (Jodi); his granddaughters, Allisa Ellingwood (Rex) and Haley Moses; his great-granddaughter, Wren; his brother, George Moses (Margaret); his nephew, Wally Moses; and his niece, Sissy Moses. Andrew is dearly missed and will be remembered in the hearts of his family and all those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Higdonville Baptist Church with Rev. Allan Walters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
