Barbara Gribble Norton

Franklin - Barbara Gribble Norton, age 78, of Otto, NC passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at a local hospital. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Jack and Belle McConnell Gribble. She was a retired school teacher at Hampton City Schools in Hampton, VA and retired from the LBJ Job Corp where she also taught. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved reading and was a member of the Franklin Book Club. Mrs. Norton was a member of the Union United Methodist where she was a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Harold Norton; her son, James H. Norton, Jr. and his wife Christina of Otto, NC; her sister, Joyce Roberts and her husband, Norm of Franklin, NC; her two grandchildren, Katelyn and Jackson Norton. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Norton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 2:00PM at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Duane Corle, Rev. Janet Green and Rev. Andy Newell officiating. Burial will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James H. Norton, Jr., Jackson Norton, Shane McConnell, Carl Beeman, Andy Newell, Bill Gardiner and Paul Vonk.

The family will receive friends Saturday, from 1200-2:00PM, two hours prior to the service at Union United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union United Methodist Church, c/o South Macon Methodist Charge, 1195 Brown Road, Otto, NC 28763.
