Franklin, NC - Betty Jean Bryson Womack, age 82, of Franklin, NC, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was a native of Macon County and was the daughter of the late James Carr Bryson and Sarah Frances Rickman Bryson. She was married to Raymond Harvey Womack who passed away in 2003. She was also predeceased by a sister, Ruth Bryson Potts. She was a faithful member of Cowee Baptist Church where she taught an adult womens class, served as church clerk and historian, was active in the Womens Missionary Union, taught Vacation Bible School and youth discipleship training, and was a messenger to the Macon Baptist Association. During her husbands military service, she taught Sunday School at Bayvale Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, and at Sylvan Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. She was previously employed at the Macon County Courthouse as a switchboard operator. Early in life, she was a telephone operator for Western Carolina Telephone Company and also worked for Crisps Studios and Camera Shop. She loved quilting, researching family and church history, and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn W. White and husband Ken of Mebane, NC, Kathy W. Peek and husband Shonn of Asheville, NC, two sons James H. Womack and wife Pam of Asheville, NC, Charles E. Womack and fiancé Sierra Ensley of Franklin, NC, one sister Sue Bryson Willis and husband Garland of Franklin, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 2:00pm at Cowee Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Fish, Rev. David Powell, Rev. Tommy Fouts, and Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Bill Fouts, Guy Fouts, Harvey Fouts, Arnold Rickman, David Womack, David Morgan, James Greenwood, Bobby Bolick, and James Garrett. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday.
