James 4:14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.
Betty Sue (Melton) Fisher, aged 65, peacefully went home to be with our Lord on May 7, 2025. She passed away at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by her loved ones, after bravely fighting a swift and valiant battle with brain lymphoma.
Born on May 16, 1959, in Dills Creek, Macon County, NC, Betty was the daughter of Ester Mae (Bates) Williams of Macon County, NC, and Lonnie Melton of Jackson County, NC, both of whom preceded her in death. Betty spent her early years in Macon County until the age of nine, when she moved to Mecklenburg County, NC, with her mother and stepfather, Woodrow Williams. In her twenties, Betty returned to western Carolina, where she resided until her passing.
Betty was an avid seamstress and quilter and enjoyed gardening. Her favorite flower was a rose. In the spring, Betty loved ramp-digging, though she kept her favorite spots a well-guarded secret! She also loved cooking for her family, with Mountain Dew pound cakes being a family favorite. Betty cherished her time at the beach, spending many summer vacations in Myrtle Beach, SC. She enjoyed fishing, watching soap operas and game shows, chatting on the phone, doing word searches, and assembling puzzles. Betty was a dedicated provider for her family and a compassionate caregiver to many.
Betty is survived by her son, Chad (Suzanne) Melton, and grandchildren Logan, Kaira, and Kadence; her son, Christopher Mathis, and grandchildren Nicholas, Sylvia, and Noah; her daughter, Jessica (Bobbie) Webb, and grandchildren April Nicole, Robbi, Shelby, and Jazzy; and great-grandchildren, Aria and Vincent. She is also survived by ten siblings: Lonnie (Bobbi Jo) Melton Jr., Billy (Martha) Melton, Janie Clapsaddle, Evelyn Ramey, Ruby (Chuck) Melton-Frazier, Aretha Hill, Linda (Ronnie) Landers, Steve (Maria) Williams, Vicki Williams, and Tamra (Dan) Kaczka. Betty is also survived by her companion, Dennis Lynn Powell of Burke County, NC.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete Melton and John Melton, and her late husband, Rick Fisher.
Betty was known for her strong will and determination, but above all, she was kind-hearted and deeply loved her family.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Franklin Covenant Church, 265 Belleview Park Road, Franklin, NC.
Philippians 2:2-4 Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
