Franklin, NC - Bill Mason 79, of Franklin entered the Kingdom of Heaven on December 2, 2013. A native of Franklin, he was the son of the late William C. Mason and Perry Panell Mason. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, WJ Mason of Oakridge Tenn, Robert(Bob) Mason of Franklin and Carl Mason of Franklin. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margie Kimsey Mason of Franklin. Also survived by 2 sons, Keith Mason (Pam) of Kernersville NC and Ron Mason (Pat) of Sneads Ferry NC, 3 Grandchildren Amy Weeger(Jeff) of Holly Springs NC, John W Mason(Tiffany) of Monroe NC and Alex Mason of Kernersville NC.

Bill proudly served in the US Navy for 22 years reaching the rank of LT. He served in Vietnam aboard the USS Independence. After his retirement from the Navy, Bill returned to school and worked on his lifelong dream of receiving a college education. He graduated from Southwestern Technical College and was 1984 Honors Graduate of Western Carolina University. His second career was in the Real Estate business where he enjoyed success as both an agent and appraiser.

A lifelong volunteer, Bill was very active in the Lions Club of Franklin serving as President. He proudly served the community as a Lion for 25 years. He was awarded the Lions Highest Honor, the Melvin Jones Award among many other Lion awards. He took great pride in working with the vision screening of the Macon Co. School Children. Additionally Bill could be seen placing American Flags all around Franklin on the 4th of July, Veterans Day and other special days during the year. He was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church in Franklin

Bryant Grant Funeral Home of Franklin will handle the arrangements. Visitation Thursday December 5, 2013 at 1pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm. Bill will be buried in the cemetery at Prentiss Baptist following the funeral service. The Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. Billy Sellers will officiate.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Lions Club of Franklin and Angel Hospice of Franklin.
