Franklin - Bobby Joe Poindexter passed away peacefully in his home, September 26, 2014. He was born the first month, seventh day of 1935 to the late James and Lula Mae Poindexter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Harvey, and Carl Poindexter, and one sister, Lucy Anderson all of Franklin.

He is survived by his former wife, Mamie Poindexter; three sisters, Nona Reece of Highlands, Verlie Allen, and Juanita (Grady) Allen, and sister in law, Ruby Poindexter of Franklin; two daughters, Shirley Ann Mashburn (Bill), and Patsy Marie Clinton (Barry); four grandchildren, Angela, Ben, Sarah, and Emily; three great grandsons, Luke, Sawyer, and Paul and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two squirrel dogs, Trixie and Julie Ann. Bobby Joe was a long time member of Burningtown Baptist Church.

Bobbie Joe worked all his life but his two favorite jobs were his first, working in Tom Rickman's apple orchard (Mr. Rickman was the best employer he ever had) and his last as an "Older American" for the Nantahala Ranger District. He was rarely found inside and in his words saw "a lot of God's creation" by getting out into it and walking, hunting, or just sitting on the porch.

Funeral services will be held at 2: PM, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in Bryant Grant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alton Dendy and Rev. Jim Kinard officiating. Burial will be in Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Land, Eddie Simonds, Bill Hughes, Jimmy Clements, and Ronnie Clark.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Angel Medical Cancer and Infusion Center, P O Box 1209, Franklin NC 28744. Also, please become a blood donor through the American Red Cross.
