San Jose, Costa Rica/ Naples, FL - Burke Allen Miller passed away suddenly in San Jose, Costa Rica on Saturday, September 17th 2011. "His candle burned at both ends, it did not last the night, but oh my friends and oh my foes it gave a lovely light".
Born to Captain Robert A. Miller and Helen Hedges Miller on February 13th, 1958 at Triplar Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. He attended Lake Park Elementary School and Gulfview Middle School in Naples, FL. He attended high school at Choate Preparatory School in Wallingford, CT. He attended Duke University for one semester before deciding to embark to California to "find himself". His father, however, escorted him to the nearest Coast Guard Recruitment office and he served four very happy years. He said he really did not remember signing up. But in retrospect he adored the Coast Guard and was awarded several medals for outstanding service.
While serving in the Coast Guard he married Karen Wright and had a daughter, Ashley Beth. He started Miller Construction Company and served as the architect for many of his homes in the Highlands, NC area. At one point he had 136 homes in the club that he had constructed. After a few years in Franklin, NC he married Debbie Provence. They both became very involved in community affairs, serving on many committees and boards. Burke moved to Costa Rica later in life. He made friends everywhere that he went. Burke was a wonderful father and son. He was very loyal and a true friend and he will be sorely missed
He is survived by his mother, Helen Miller. His sister, Tara Miller Dane; and two brothers, Robert Nathan Miller and Keith C. Miller.
He is also survived by his only daughter, Ashley Burnett, her husband Teddy; and three granddaughters, Lexi, Layla and Mya; and a granddaughter due in December.
Memorial service will be held at Franklin Covenant Church (265 Belleview Park Rd. Franklin, NC) on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 4:00 pm. There will be a covered dish celebration after the service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to: The Burnett College Fund, 88 Old Frazier Road, Franklin, NC
