Carlene Owenby Grant

Nantahala - Carlene Owenby Grant, age 92, of the Nantahala Community went home Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Clay County Care Center. She was the daughter of the late C. B. "Tump" and Emma Grant Owenby. She was married to Noel Grant who passed away in 1986. Carlene was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church and had served on the cemetery committee for several years. She loved her family and loved singing and quilting. Carlene sang with the Hampton Branch Quartet for several years. She was retired from Owenby Manufacturing Company.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald Grant and wife Della Mae of Thomasville, NC and Guy Grant and wife Charlotte of Hayesville, NC. Four grandchildren, Edwin, Terry, Danny, and Paula Grant; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Genessa Owenby, Exie Taylor, Beulah Wishon, Gladys Owenby; a half-sister, Kate Trammell; one brother, Buford Owenby and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. S. J. Waters, Rev. Darrell Dockery and Rev. Doyce Waters officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o J. D. Owenby, 995 Junaluska Rd., Topton, NC 28781.
