Franklin, NC - Clara Agnes Slagle Hazard passed away on July 8, 2014. She was born April 4, 1924 in Macon County, North Carolina to Reverend Theron Slagle and Jane Hampton Slagle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Forest Slagle and Earl Slagle and one sister Ruth McGaha. Mrs. Hazard was married to Wiley Jackson, Bruce Kelley and Robert Hazard, all of whom preceded her in death.

Agnes was a devout Christian, educator and community worker. She was an active member of Tellico Baptist Church. During her life she worked in many Christian endeavors. Among them were: Sunday School Youth Director, WMU and GA’s Director and church cemetery committee. For seven years, she served as the church secretary for Calvary Baptist Church, Winston Salem, North Carolina. Later, she served as a foreign missionary to Kenya where she worked as a child evangelist. She was also an author of two Christian books: Behold the Lamb and Studies in the Messianic Psalms.Mrs. Hazard loved children and worked as an educator in North Carolina, Kentucky and South Carolina. She retired as a principal from the Greenville County Schools, Greenville, South Carolina. In retirement, Mrs. Hazard was an active member of the Macon County Women’s Republican Club, where she helped in local, state and national elections.

She is survived by nieces: Helen S. Lane, Frances S. Dewitt, Barbara M. Posey and Betty M. Breedlove and nephews William (Bill) Slagle, John Slagle, Ronald Slagle and Harold McGaha. She is also survived by step- daughters: Bobbie Hazard Miller, Cheryl Clarmont, Raymond Hazard and step-son-in law Sherman Butler and brother –in-law Ronald (Alice) Hazard and sister-in-law Dorothy Nelson, as well as, many great nieces, great nephews, step- grand children and cousins.

Funeral services will held at Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Tellico Baptist Church. Dr. Richard Hughes, Rev. Gary McCoy and Rev. Morris Tippet will officiate. Burial will in the Tellico Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, from 1:00 -2:00 pm, at Tellico Baptist Church.

Pall Bearers will be: Danny Breedlove, James Lane, Harold McGaha, Todd McGaha, John Slagle, Ron Slagle, Bill Slagle, Jerry Smith and Eric Young.
