Cleophas ("Cleo") Duncan

Franklin, NC - Cleophas ("Cleo") Duncan, 85, of Franklin, NC died peacefully at home on August 31, 2011. Born in Trinity, AL on May 18, 1926, Cleo lived in Franklin for the last 65 years.

Over the years she worked in various local businesses (Belk’s Department Store, Burlington Industries, Blue Bell Industries, Carolina Pharmacy), was a loving homemaker, and was a member of Patton United Methodist Church.

As a TVA worker during World War II, she was stationed at Kentucky Dam in Paducah, KY, before being transferred to the Fontana Dam project. There she met the love of her life, Porter C. Duncan, and they were married, April 13, 1945. After work on Fontana Dam was completed, the couple moved to Oak Ridge, TN where Porter worked in the National Defense facility. They returned to Franklin in 1946 and lived happily there together for the rest of their married life.

Cleo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She lived a full and active life, evidencing the "Fruit of the Spirit" in all that she did.

She is survived by her husband Porter; son and daughter-in law, Don and Beth Duncan of Raleigh, NC; Lawrence and Donna Patton of Franklin; grandchildren, Lawrence A. Duncan of Portland, OR, and Lisa E.
