Amery WI, Franklin - Dallas Pauline Henson 94, originally of Franklin, NC passed away July 26, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Deborah Henson, in rural Amery, WI. Dallas was born May 13, 1919 on Bell Creek, Hiawassee, Towns County GA to Lewis Cass Ledford and Bellzona (Coleman) Ledford.
Dallas attended Young Harris College majoring in education. She worked two years in Gastonia, NC at Parkdale cotton mill and Firestone. She attended Toccoa Falls Institute majoring in business and Bible. She taught Bible schools in the summers for the American Sunday School Union in northeast GA and western NC & continued to do so throughout her life and was active in administrative duties in her home church's district. After graduating she taught at Dooley Independent School in Union county, Ga. Dallas married J. B. Henson, on May 4, 1952 in Walhalla, SC and they made their home at Riverside, Franklin, NC. They were in dairy farming from 1953 to 1982. Dallas was active in Hickory Knoll Methodist Church, Homemakers Club, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, and is remembered for her good cooking by her friends and family. In later years she loved to work crossword puzzles.
Dallas was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Henson, her parents and all of her sisters, brothers, and in-laws: two sisters, Beatrice Burch (Grady), Vesta Ledford, and four brothers, Doyle Ledford (Fern, Faye), Dorman Ledford, Olan Ledford (Claudia), and Avery (Jenny).
Dallas is survived by her daughter, Deborah Henson, and son-in-law, Lorand Swenson, of Amery, WI; and two granddaughters, Amanda Swenson of Boston, MA and Kristina Swenson of Amery, WI , numerous special nieces and nephews(and their children and grandchildren), sister- in-law, Mary Cagle, and close cousins.
Funeral services will be held Sunday August 4 at 4:00 PM am at Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Sears officiating and Amanda Swenson doing the eulogy . Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Kristina Swenson, Tommy Ledford, Jerry Moss, Lewis Burch, Brian Burch, Phillip Ledford, Roger Hicks, Jim Bruner, Larry Conley, and Richard Alexander. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Sunday at Bryant Grant Funeral Home in Franklin, NC. The body will remain at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home until placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to sevices.
