Franklin - David Lee Dillard, age 68, of Franklin, NC passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at a local hospital. He was born in Jackson County, NC the son of Nellie Franks Dillard of Sylva, NC and the late Charlie Dillard. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a retired teacher for the Macon County Schools and was a member of the Cowee Baptist Church where he served on the building committee. He was a strong family man, loved all sports and was a cabinet maker and builder. David was on the board of directors for the Macon County Fair and was a founder member of the Cowee Fire & Rescue.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Claudette Leatherman Dillard; two daughters, Pamela Shepherd and her husband, Mike and Sherry Williamson and her husband, Dustin all of Franklin, NC; two step-daughters, Karen Smith and her husband, John of Franklin, NC and Melody Holeman and her husband Delwin of Athens, GA; one sister, Annie Estes and husband, Charles of Sylva, NC; two brothers, Earl Dillard and his wife, Shirley of Franklin, NC and Eugene Dillard and his wife Mary of Sylva, NC. Ten grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Dillard.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 5 at 3:00PM at Cowee Baptist Church with Rev. David Powell, Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Burial will be at Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery. Ted Kirkland, Mike Vanhook, Bill Fouts, Terry Cabe, Tony Shuler and Vern Davis will serve as pallbearers. Cowee Fire and Rescue will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will have full military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 5 from 1:00-3:00PM, two hours prior to the service at Cowee Baptist Church.
