Highlands, NC - David A. Rohrer, age 82, of Highlands, NC passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was born in Geary County, Kansas, the son of the late Harold A. Rohrer and Helen Whitehair Rohrer. He was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving 27 years, including time during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked as an engineer for John Deere and Prime Mover. Later, he became known as The Weaver in Highlands, and produced elegant, artisan handwoven fabrics. He was a member of the Rotary Highlands Club and the WNC Civil War Round Table. Colonel Rohrer also served on the boards of the Highlands Chamber of Commerce, the Zoning Board and the Hudson Library; and delivered Meals on Wheels for ten years. He was active in Our Lady of the Mountains church.
Colonel Rohrer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Moon Rohrer; four daughters: Theresa Anne Jehlik and husband Richard of Omaha, NE, Jennifer Rohrer Rodriguez and husband Joseph of Marietta, GA, Catherine Lynn Hahn and husband Frank of Muscatine, IA and Jeanne Marie Carlson and husband Lyle of OFallon, MO; two sons: Richard Floyd Rohrer and wife Patricia of Kerrville, TX and Karl Andre Rohrer and wife Christine of Vienna, VA; one sister: Ruth Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; one brother: Hugh Rohrer of Naples, FL. Eight grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, August 20 at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Friday, August 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Highlands, NC.
