Deborah Margaret Norman

Deborah Margaret Norman, 59, of Highlands passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late James W. Norman and the late Mary Frances Summer Potts and the late Louis Eugene Potts.

She was director of daycare at Newlife Baptist Daycare in Fayetteville, NC..Deborah dedicated her career to serving others with jobs in social work and hospice which were very special to her. She was a social worker for Four Seasons Hospice.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved to read. She loved her church and was a very faithful member of Shortoff Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and prepared the church bulletins.

Survivors include two daughters, Amber Dawn Morrow of Asheville and Ashley Elizabeth Chavis of Highlands; one son, James Kevin Chavis of Hope Mills, NC and three grandchildren, Jacob Moralis and Jayden Manning both of Highlands and Chloe Chavis of Hope Mills.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Shortoff Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Cloer officiating. Burial will follow in Highlands Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Chavis, Lester Norris, John Dotson, Doyle Calloway, Buddy Miller, Danny Chastain, Jonathan Miller and Benjamin Miller. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 ‑ 2:00 pm, prior to the service at the church.
