Mr. Dennis Wayne Currie, 77, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025. Mr. Currie was born February 9, 1948, in Guildford County, NC to the late James Thomas Currie and Mazell Sauls Currie.
Dennis worked and retired after 30+ years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran with the Seabee Construction Battalion. He served two tours in the Vietnam War receiving a Purple Heart. He later served in the reserves. He served as the VFW Post 7339 Commander for 8 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 108.
Dennis was born to a sharecropper family and rose to great success in his life. He had a very stubborn and strong personality (affectionately known as the Road Rage King) but was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was a very generous person.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Currie; two daughters, Shelly Currie and Devon Currie (Kaden Reynard); three stepchildren, Lynee' Willis, Christopher Willis (Jennifer) and Miranda Willis (Jason Walker); six grandchildren, Noah Carpenter, Brooklyn Davis, Emma Carpenter, Bryce Willis, Britney Willis, and Bridgette Walker; four siblings, Roger Currie, Mitchell "Mickey" Currie (Kathy), Sandra Currie-Papp, and Timothy Currie (Carla); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Dennis was preceded in death by a half-brother, Bobby Davis; a brother, James "Buddy" Currie; and a sister, Susan Currie.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home in Franklin, NC. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339 starting at 5:00 PM.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View Manor in Bryson City for their compassionate care that was provided to Dennis during his time with them.
