Franklin, NC - Dennis Downs, 66, a lifelong resident of Franklin, died Wednesday, August 13, after a brief illness. He was a son of Ray Downs and Oma Wooten Downs.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Barry Downs of Franklin; his loving companion, Rita Crawford and her children, Misty, Brian and Scott and their spouses and nine grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Alexander of Houston, TX; three brothers, Johnny, Lowell and Edward Downs all of Franklin and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Downs.

Dennis retired from Nantahala Power after 30 years, but was a farmer at heart. He was a quiet, gifted man who could do everything well and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

According to his wishes, a private service will be held at a later date.
