Don M. Ries

Don M. Ries, 96, formerly of Franklin, NC passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

He was born March 20, 1928, in Baltimore, MD. to the late Albert William Ries and Evelyn Jean Austin. Don was a beloved father, grandfather and uncle.  He worked as an engineer for B&O Railroad until he retired.  He was then able to enjoy more days on the golf course and became a member of the Franklin Men’s Golf Association.  A faithful Christian, Don most recently attended Anchor Baptist Church in Millersville, MD.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lelia (Linda) Ries and brother William (Bill) Ries.

He is survived by one son, Donald Wayne Ries of Glen Burnie, MD; two grandchildren, D’Artagnan Ries (Dawn) and Victoria “Vicki” Bnaity (Michael); three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Justin Ries and George Ellis Bnaity; three sister-in-laws, Odessa Fields, Vetrice Murphy and Bertha Morgan Neal; two brother-in-laws, Rev. Jimmy Wiggins, Billy Murphy; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday May 2, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Ralph Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
