Dorothy Mae Irby, age 77, of Lyle Downs Road, Franklin, NC passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at a local nursing home. She was born in Hines Co., Mississippi, the daughter of the late Willie H.M. and Lois P. Given Bates. She was an office worker for the Indiana State Highway Department and was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Extension Homemakers.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Howard Eugene Irby; one daughter, Ms. Terry Turnvull of Cambridge, England; two sons, David A. Irby of Hammond, IN. and Paul A. Hampton of Michigan; five sisters, Peggy Schichner of Lodi, CA, Roseanne Dalton of Valencia, CA, Sarah Jo Muller of Palms, CA, Margott Griffin of Homer, Louisiana and Dancia Brooks of Hendersonville, TN; three granddaughters, Michelle Ann Hampton, Marcie Kaye Hampton and Taylor Nicole Irby. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Bates.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ron Odom officiating.
