Edward Wiley Carpenter

Franklin, NC - Edward "Buck" Wiley Carpenter, age 63, of the Hickory Knoll Road, Franklin, NC went to be with his Lord, Sunday, September 27, 2009 at an Asheville Hospital. He was a native of Macon County, the son of Alvia Ledford Carpenter of Franklin, NC and the late Zeb Carpenter. He was retired from Nantahala Power and Light as a service technician. He attended Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church, where he was Chairman of Board of Trustees and Choir Member. He loved being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Phyllis Steele Carpenter; a daughter, Kim Orr and her husband, John of Franklin, NC, a son, Michael Edward Carpenter of Franklin, NC; four step-daughters, Autumn Corbin and her husband Allen of Franklin, NC, Angela Pruett of Marco Island, FL, Charlene Stanley of Gastonia, NC, and Diane Hardin and her husband Joe, of Lowell, NC; four step-sons, David Keener, serving in Iraq, James Keener and his wife Velvett of Sylva, NC, Ted Keener and his wife Leslie of Albaquerque, NM, and Rick Keener and his wife Melissa of Gastonia; two sisters, Olivia Marie Whitmore of Conyers, GA, and Wanda Lee Cabe of Otto, NC; five brothers, Leon David Carpenter and his wife Vonore, Kenneth Carpenter and his wife Audrey, James William Carpenter, and his wife Doris, Harold Victor Carpenter, and Charles Delano Carpenter and his wife Vickie all of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren, Larissa Orr and David Keener; fifteen step-grandchilden also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1st at 4:00pm at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Sears, Rev. Don Moffitt, and Rev. Tim McConnell officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Conley, Mike Langley, Sr., Bill Crisp, John Wilde, Randall Dills, and Carl Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00pm, Thursday, prior to the service at First United Methodist Church.
