Edwin "Ed" Harold Houston, 81, of Clayton, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026. He was born July 30, 1944, in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Ray C. Houston and Ruby Woods Houston.
Mr. Houston worked for thirty years for Schmitt Building Contractors in Highlands, NC. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Blue Valley Baptist Church where he served as a former assistant pastor and was also a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and going to the Smokies and Cades Cove in the travel trailer. Mr. Houston loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a big pillar in the community, a Godly man that loved his Bible and spreading the word.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Dorthy Houston; daughter, Paula Nix; grandchildren, Courtney Ward (Deva), Chesnea Hunnicutt (Chris), Adam Wayne (Taylor), and Gus Teeter; great-grandchildren, Kalyd, Hunter, Kasen, Falyn, Denver; sister, Barbara Brown; brothers, Richard Houston and H.C. (Dink) Houston; and his faithful companion and dog, Turbo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Kenneth Houston, James "Jimmy" Houston, Larry Ray Houston, Martha H. Hall, Linda Houston, and Irene Longley.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Macedonia Baptist Church, with Rev. Jamie Passmore and Rev. Matt Shuler officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Wayne, Gus Teeter, Tony Serkedakis, Melvin Houston, Kelly Dendy, and Ralph Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Austin and Lester Norris. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339.
