Ellen Kaye (Mccall) Plemmons

Ellen Kaye McCall Hardy Plemmons, 66, of Franklin NC passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022.

Kaye was born December 2, 1955, in Franklin to Janice and Lenis McCall. She spent most of her life in the Cowee community. She was full of life, kindness and empathy, and there was no emotion that she didn’t feel to its fullest. When she laughed, it was with her whole chest. When she loved, it was with her whole spirit. When she grieved, it was with her whole soul. She loved the first tomato sandwich of the summer; music of every genre (as long as it was loud and she could dance to it); bragging on her kids and grandkids; and sitting next to the creek morning, noon and night. Her fried taters were as perfect as her jokes were inappropriate. Today and for many days to come, the people who knew and loved her grieve with our whole souls – even though she would tell us to celebrate her life and do the twist in her honor or she’d haunt us forever. Sorry, Mom, we’re not quite ready for that. Haunt away.

There will never be another like Kaye, and we are grateful to have known her.

She is survived by her children Nichole Esmon and husband Alex of Asheville, Justin Hardy and wife Carrie of Rogers AR, and Andy Plemmons of Bryson City; grandchildren Piper Esmon, Graham Esmon, Truemner McCall Hardy and Lincoln Hardy; brother Jerry McCall and wife Janet of Franklin; nieces Lindsay Leopard and Amelia McCall; aunts Linda Garner, Connie Curtis, Judy Pickens, Betty Ramey, Susie Owen and Gayle Tallent; a great brood of cousins; ex-husbands Rick Hardy of Saginaw MI and Mike Plemmons of Bryson City; and a host of beloved friends including her lifelong best friend Jeanne Tastinger. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Teresa McCall, aunts Lucille and Dorothy, uncle Steve Miller, and stepfather Charles Henderson.

In keeping with her wishes, the family will hold a private memorial with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Donations in Kaye’s memory can be made to the Community Care Clinic of Franklin.
