Franklin, NC - Ernest Sylvester Hedden, 89, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2014 in a local hospital. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late William Washington and Rosetta Leopard Hedden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elmira Berry Hedden, who died June 2, 2008. He was a logger and was a charter member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon and building trustee. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Hedden is survived by his daughter, Sharon Hunt and her husband Bob of Franklin; two sons, Steve Hedden and wife Viola of Athens, AL and Sammy Hedden of Franklin; best friend and hunting buddy, Glenn Holland; caregivers, Becky Hamilton and Tammy Swafford; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, William "Billy" Hedden; a sister, Irene Coleman and eight brothers, Dilmer Lee Hedden, Elmer Hedden, Everette Hedden, Arley Willis Hedden, Warren Edison Hedden, Furman Tilliman Hedden, William Dewey Hedden and Benjamin Lewey Hedden,.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday January 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy and Rev. Wesley Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Strain Cemetery. Nephews and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
