Eugene Edward Patton

Franklin, NC - Eugene Edward Patton, age 77, of C B Patton Place, Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in a local care center. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Jeff and Della Passmore Patton. He was married to Edith Henry Patton who died in 2006. He was retired from the US Navy with 20 years service, having served during Korea and Vietnam and had worked at Burlington Industries. He was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church where he was very active. He was a loving father and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and helping others as well as gardening. He wrote a a detailed biography of his life for his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Sonya Shook and husband John of Franklin, NC; adopted sister, Wynoma Shope of Otto, NC; her daughter Marjorie Johnson and husband Eddie; their two daughters, Heather and Sara and several nieces and nephews. Two grandchildren, Chandler and Roman Shook also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy and Rev. Wesley Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Patton United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct complete military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:00 pm, one and one half hour, prior to the service at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Walnut Creek Baptist Church, c/o Billy Jo Hedden, 184 Ledford Branch Rd., Franklin, NC 28734.
