Evelyn Allison (Ray) Brendle

Evelyn Alison Ray Brendle, age 82, born November 11, 1934 passed away December 31, 2016 at her residence.  She was a native of Macon County the daughter of the late Oliver W. Ray and Alice Sutton Ray.  She was married for 57 years to the late Lawrence G. Brendle who died on October 2nd, 2010.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Teresa Hall (Ralph) of Greensboro, N.C., June Hodgin (Jack) of Franklin, N.C., and Jean Poindexter (Carroll) of Franklin, N. C.  Seven grandchildren, Christopher Cheek, Matthew Green, Mark Green, Justin Poindexter, Andrew Hall, Darrell Hodgin and Kecia Hursey.  Sixteen great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one sister, Eunice Doster of Franklin, N. C.  and one brother-in-law Bill Vanhook.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jacob and Daniel Hall, two brothers, R. C. Ray and Otis Ray.  Three sisters, Monta Hurst, Wendall Angel and Isabele Vanhook

She had dedicated compassionate caregivers which were Kim Ledford, Jason Jenkins, Connie Watson and Harris LIFEPATH Palliative Care and Hospice.

Evelyn was a loving Christian mother who cherished her family and served the Lord everyday of her life.  She was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand and listening ear to those in need.  Even physical limitations during her senior years could not hinder her sense of humor and caring giving spirit.  As a member of Prentiss Baptist Church she served as Sunday School teacher, a Bible School worker and the secretary/clerk.  Prior to her retirement in 1996, she was a lunchroom worker and manager at Union Elementary School.  While there she strived to make every child and staff member feel important and loved.  She was a precious mother, faithful friend and patient caregiver to her husband, mother and in-laws.  Evelyn will truly be missed but her legacy will live on through the lives of those she touched.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Monday January 2, 2017 at Bryant Grant Funeral Home Chapel with visitation being Sunday January 1st from 6 to 8 pm and at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.  Burial will be at the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery.  Rev. Michael Stephens and Rev. Billy Sellers will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Cheek, Zachary Cheek, Matthew Green, Mark Green, Andrew Hall and Darrell Hodgin.
