Franklin, NC - Fred Roger Wooten, age 82, of Franklin, NC passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Ruth Brown Wooten. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War and worked for Burlington Industries for 40 years. He was a member of Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church; was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and liked hunting, fishing and farming.
Mr. Wooten is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ila Scott Wooten; a daughter, Sheila Wooten James and husband Clayton of Seneca, SC; three sisters, Catherine Ray, Shirley Shuler and Agnes Tardy all of Franklin, NC; two brothers, Paul Wooten of Clayton, GA and Bruce Wooten of Franklin, NC; two grandsons, Shane Golden and Jack Beaty and two great granddaughters, McKinnley Golden and Julie Beaty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Beaty, a sister, Sue Roper and a brother, Neville Wooten.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Perdue officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Roper, Michael Vanhook, Keith Ray, Terry McCoy, Wayne Beaty and Steve Waldroop. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 8:00 pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home where the body will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
