Franklin, NC - Furman Lee Peek, age 84, of Franklin, NC passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in a local hospital. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late John McKinley Peek and Ella Vesta Keener Peek. He was married to Jeanette Holland Peek, who passed away in 1995. He was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church and was a US Army Veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War. He worked at Poindexter Tire; was a former member of Cullasaja Fire Department and he loved to drive his truck.
He is survived by five daughters, Sharon Huscusson and Bill, Martha McConnell and Elbert and Pam Bell and Mark all of Franklin, NC; Linda Henderson and Bill of Brevard, NC and Vesta Hogsed and Roland of Lake Toxaway, NC; two sons, Bobby Peek and Sharon of Frankin, NC and Billy Peek and Toya of Houston, Delaware; one sister, Betty McCall of Franklin, NC; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a niece, Beverly McCall.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19th at 11:00am at Windy Gap Baptist Church, with Rev. Ernie Jamison, Rev. Mark Bishop, and Rev. Carson Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Buck Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct complete military graveside rites. Grandsons, Phil Henderson, John Hogsed, Michael Henderson, Joshua Peek, Travis Hedden, Brandon Peek and Charlie Bell will serve as pallbearers. Granddaughters, Angie Hogsed, Ashley Vinson, Cassie Peek and Hope McConnell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Friday evening at Windy Gap Baptist Church.
