It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary George Puckett, who left this world on June 6, 2026, at the age of 89, in a tragic car accident. Born on August 4, 1936, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Gary's life was a tapestry of spirited adventures, unwavering dedication, and boundless love.
Gary was the son of Gerrold and Alice Puckett, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. He is predeceased by his loving parents, two brothers and his brother-in-law, who welcomed him into the embrace of eternity.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, TJ Puckett, who stood by his side through every triumph and challenge. Together, they built a wonderful life in Canada, later moving to Florida and finally North Carolina. He leaves behind his sister, Lynne MacMillan, was his lifelong confidante, and their bond was one of enduring strength and affection.
His career as a project manager in construction took him across continents, allowing him to leave a lasting mark on landscapes worldwide. One of the projects he was most proud of what the restoration of Harder Hall in Sebring, FL. In his younger years, Gary was a proud pro football player in the Canadian Football League, where his passion for sportsmanship and teamwork shone brightly. His Canadian roots also saw him thrive as a cowboy on ranches, and as a search and rescue skier in the Rockies, embodying the rugged spirit of the land he loved.
Gary's zest for life extended far beyond his professional achievements. He and TJ shared a love for exploration, often embarking on cruises to discover new horizons. Gary's fondness for classic cars ignited countless journeys to car shows, auctions, and antique showcases with his beloved friends. His green thumb transformed their home into a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility, where he cultivated both gardens and cherished memories, especially on their farm in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Known for his gift of making everyone feel welcome and valued, Gary's kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His compassion extended to our four-legged friends, as he rescued many pets from shelters, offering them lives filled with love and care.
In accordance with his wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Gary’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center, reflecting Gary's lifelong commitment to compassion and care for animals. In Gary’s Letter of Last Instruction he writes, “I have been a very fortunate person, I had a wife I dearly loved and wonderful loving parents through my growing years and now I hope to see them again. The only thing that escaped me was not having a Packard. Maybe, when I pass, someone will slip a picture of a ’49 Packard Super Deluxe Convertible in my hand before cremation.”
